i am on my 8th day of insanity, and it feels like i have gotten fatter, my lower stomech is sticking out, and i have lost some ab definition, but my quads and calfs have gotten extremely bigger, i follow the meal plan, and their are puddles of sweat around me when i workout, why am i getting fatter? or is it even fat, im really confused. my previous worlkout made me lose 30 pounds in 3 months, but the insanity seems to be wrecking it, should i pull the plug on the insanity workout? im 18 i weigh 195

What is the insanity workout? Does it relate to this site? Just asking. – Anonymous Chump May 4 2012 at 23:36

Your muscle does start to build before you lose fat. Also seeing swelling before losing is normal. Look at the workout you are doing. It's intense so nice huge calfs are going to be part of it. But trust me, once you're down to almost week three, you should be happy.

When I think of P90X and Insanity I think chronic cardio, cortisol, and repetitive stress injury.

it is kind of easy compared to other stuff i did the past 4 years of high school(powerlifting, football, rugby) – mike May 5 2012 at 1:05
Well, its not really about easy. Its more about why your doing it. If you wanna be healthier and have a strong physique I'd go back to the powerlifting...do some HIIT...and eat a paleo diet. Your young, so I'm sure you can handle the program. I'm just pretty well convinced its less than optimal. But I've done plenty of less than optimal training in my life so have at it :). – JayJay May 5 2012 at 1:58
What JayJay said. I like a crazy Insanity workout every now and again, it is a fun workout (aside from his warm-up/stretch routine... that, my friend, is bass-ackward) and I love how I feel post-workout. Similar to an intense Crossfit metcon. However, insanity isnt the answer for fitness, leaning out, or even health in general. If you're going for lean: diet and strength work is all you really need (the HIIT is icing on the fat-loss cake and insanity could qualify as the HIIT workout - just don't do it every day). – Susan May 5 2012 at 3:50
thank you for the advice :) – mike May 5 2012 at 15:45

Some things to consider: Is it possible that it's inflammation? I sincerely doubt you're truly fatter. Has your weight changed, or your diet changed? Are you adequately hydrated? Rest is very important.

my diet has been the same for the past 4 months, and im well hydraded(2 gallons per day), and i sleep 7-8 hours per day – mike May 4 2012 at 23:43

From what I heard, you build muscle before you burn the fat, looking bigger for a little while, then the fat comes down.

i lokked defined prior to this, but then i got really bulky the past 8 days – mike May 5 2012 at 1:06
