Hi, I'm a pretty skeptical guy but the evidence of candida overgrowth is really stacking up, I have pretty much every symptom that's listed

I'm at university at the moment so there is no point in starting the candida diet because there will inevitably be some drinking between now and the final exams so this summer I'm going to take this candida diet seriously including the 7 day detox and the strict diet stage for 3 weeks to a month and see how I feel, then I will probably resort back to a paleo style diet (even though the two are fairly similar I notice)

Here is the site I'm talking about http://www.thecandidadiet.com/

Has anyone had success on this diet or can share any advice for me? I know not everyone believes in candida overgrowth but in my shunning of CW I've decided to take it seriously and see if I can change the terrible way I feel

Cheers

So, if one looks at the symptoms list (on any site), it can be assumed we all have candida overgrowth. Or, look at the possible "causes", it's candida og. I've a new MD, who is more or less alternative in practice, and he, without looking at labs or listening to my heart or palpating - nothing - quick to dx COG. But he also sells a "kit" and all kinds of various supps. I am not convinced. When a list of signs or symptoms both include, for example, both hyPO and hyPER glycemia? . . . and on and on. . . Would like to hear more about what specifics u r experiencing & successes when u try it. – PaulaMend May 8 2012 at 17:47
I'd do a detox first before starting on any "candida diet", as you might not need it. Eat good carbs and sugars (e.g 1 apple a day). Also I'd stay away from any oil that is not coconut or olive as well. – dan Aug 15 at 23:03

I know quite few people who have gone on the candida diet and had good results.

I find that a dose of fluconazole (diflucan) or for more chronic candida, a treatment of ketaconzole often kick starts the process. I am not sure if you can get these over the counter where you are.

Beer, vinegar, wine, mustard (liquid) anything fermented are the worst culprits so it's going to take quite a bit of work. I think its very compatible with the paleo diet. I'm allergic to yeast so am basically always on a candida diet and have had less problems since going paleo.

I would definately suggest giving it a try. Candida sucks big time.

DO NOT take fluconazole and ketaconazole. It damages your liver and there are natural treatments that are much more effective. – dan Aug 15 at 22:53
Dan, care to say which ones? – MrsD Aug 25 at 12:29

Absolutely. I've had success with a very similar program, as have my friends and family.

Personally, I'd suggest starting some aspects of it, even if you expect some alcohol consumption. Any start is often a good start. Sure, strict adherence is the best, but adding probiotics and restricting some foods known to feed candida will begin the process.

Yes. Probiotics are a must! ACIDOPHILUS or kefir. – MrsD May 8 2012 at 13:48

I don't have experience with that specific diet/protocol, but I did the Body Ecology Diet many years ago. I was also seeing a Naturopath and was on all kinds of supplements. Initially, I felt great. Like for the first 8 months. Then I felt worse. I am not sure what exactly happened and all the Naturopath would say is that, that sometimes happens??? For me, restricting my diet like that triggered an eating disorder of sorts. I was convinced that everything I ate was going to hurt me or feed the candida. Not saying that will happen to you at all, but just relating my experience. Having said that, it might be worth a try.

Yes, I have been on the Candida diet and it worked for me. It was not easy sticking to a strict diet but I'm so glad I did because the benefits are great. This diet is for someone who has suffered enough and is willing to sacrifice many foods to get better.
