I've been doing great on (mostly) paleo. Lost some pounds, more even energy, clearer head.
Last few days I drank some cokes, ate some cake and candy and some pizza.
Ok, so now getting back on track. I am feeling strung out! brain foggy, sleepy. I assume it's the insulin? Is there anything I can do over the next few days to speed up my process of returning to calm, clear, healthy normal? I figure I'll eat almost exclusively fat/protein (no fruit), anything else to help reset me? I hate fogging out at work.
I see no reason not just to go about paleo as you normally would. In a few days your body will forget it happened at all. I believe Mark Sisson wrote an article about what happened when you carb-binged. You can probably find it on his website.
Water is a good call, as it's easy to forget when your body seems to be releasing so much of it (that it retained during the binge). Sleeping or napping if possible is much more sensible then trying to force through periods when you're feeling low, though equally exercise can help. Fasting can help but for me it's more important to eat if I want to and make sure it's real food. It's too much effort worrying about other stuff when trying to get back on track.
I really hate the post-binge brain fog. Here are some strategies that have helped me in the past:
Nap. Be prepared for some really vivid and strange dreams.
Drink a LOT of water. Like double your usual amount. For the next 2-3 days. You'll probably wake up dehydrated anyway.
Fast until you're truly, truly hungry.
Eat meals heavy on protein and fat. No snacking. Only eat when you're hungry.
Move around. You're going to feel very tired and lethargic, so just keep moving. Exercise if you can, but you don't have to exhaust yourself if it's too difficult. Just try to avoid sitting down on the couch unless you want to nap for a few hours.
