As I found out in my cheap paleo options question my favorite Pho places use MSG. I had hoped to have Pho restaraunts as my go to eating out place but it is not to be.

Are there ANY Pho places that do not use MSG? Any listing of such anywhere?

I may be kidding myself but surely SOME restaurant avoid using it considering avoidance of it is fairly widespread.

Why not find a privately owned restaurant and discuss your wishes with the owner?

Dude Pho is simple. Basically chicken broth and whatever else veggies and meat they put in it...just make it a home!

I'm trying but mine has not turned out well. I also like to have a place I can go with friends that doesn't require special ordering. – Denis May 11 2012 at 0:26

Where are you located? I live in Orange County, CA and having consulted with Vietnamese sources in the know... nothing in Little Saigon that I can find. I put the Q out on Facebook too, no results. I finally found one family owned place in Newport Beach that doesn't use MSG, but that's about it.

I don't go out for pho anymore though, as much as I love the flavor I can't justify the cost for some broth I can't get full on when I skip the majority volume of noodles, etc.

Your next best bet is to check Yelp reviews of Pho places. Often there are MSG-sensitive reviewers who will mention if they think MSG was used based on whether they get the predictable after effects. Then visit the place and to double check, also ask the server before you order pho.
