You've already received an answer in one of your previous questions saying grains are out in paleo diet. Your question here is against some of the most basic tenets of paleo. It's fine to ask questions, but it's better if you do some of your own reading before that. Now this sounds like trolling, and will be treated as such. -1 – Wisper May 14 2012 at 8:49

Folks, this poster is an 18 year old, probably/possibly still in school, still subject to the food/shopping choices of his parents. I think all the downvoting is pretty snarky--he doesn't seem to be a troll, just someone with a lot to learn about diet, exercise, and paleo. – Christopher Gagnon May 14 2012 at 14:39

I agree - this is a legit question. Mike, ask a way, don't let this stop you! Some people have too much testosterone, and they just don't know how to use it! – VB May 14 2012 at 18:22

You aren't pissing people off, there are just 5 negative people here who, for some reason, think downvoting a question is the right way to honor the spirit of this site's FAQ, which says "...No question is too trivial or too 'newbie'" and "Be nice," and "Be tolerant of others who may not know everything you know." By the way, if you haven't looked at it yet, do check out the FAQ--it will help lead you to lots of great information on paleo and clear up some of your confusion over what to eat/not eat, etc. – Christopher Gagnon May 14 2012 at 23:41

Nah man. Fruit is great pre or post workout! Potatoes, sweet potatoes, or even rice cakes if it's really intense do the job as well. Hell pound a little thing of pedialite. What you need is muscle glycogen, not gluten and soybean oil.

Hope that helps you out and gives you some nice alternatives.

Just to clarify for the OP, normally paleo means "grain free," which would include rice (and the whole wheat crackers!), but there are some folks who consider white rice to be a "safe starch," meaning it might be okay to eat, even though it's technically a grain. Some people tolerate white rice just fine, and some don't without some kind of side effect--which could be as simple as just gaining weight from the extra carbs. – Christopher Gagnon May 14 2012 at 23:44

no not at all. ritz are made of wheat which has gluten in it, ritz also uses hydrogenated soybean oil in their crackers. and lastly peanut butter is gmo and roasted and void of any real nutrients. oh and its not a nut but a legume. ritz are made of a grain too.

GRAINS AND LEGUMES = ANTI PALEO

Also, some legumes are more toxic than others and peanuts fall in the more toxic category, primarily due to the peanut mold Aflatoxin. Peanuts also have high levels of n6 (linoleic acid). – Dave S. May 14 2012 at 12:41
Peanut butter may not be recommended from a paleo perspective, but it's somewhat dishonest to dismiss it based on being "GMO" and "void of any real nutrients." One can easily obtain non-GMO peanut butter, and it's hardly void of "real nutrients," unless we ignore the protein, B3, B6, E, copper, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, etc. I think we should not resort to hyperbole when educating people about paleo and non-paleo foods. Yes, peanuts and other legumes have serious drawbacks--those are reason enough to not eat them without fabricating scary additional reasons. – Christopher Gagnon May 14 2012 at 23:53

WHy don't ya go for sliced banana with almond butter or sunbutter? ;) or if you want that crunch, go for banana chips (& your seed/nut butter of choice)!

I wouldn't recommend nut butter pre or post workout. – Kasra May 14 2012 at 4:09
Why would that be, Kasra? – Matt May 14 2012 at 11:53

I agree with kasra – foreveryoung May 14 2012 at 13:22
But why not? I'm seriously curious--is it because of the fat or protein (or both)? – Christopher Gagnon May 14 2012 at 23:59
Omega6- I'd rather eat a whole loaf of bread than the same amount of calories from nut butters. While I understand nuts are included in a paleo diet, I think it's a big mistake to replace even grains or tubers with them. – Korion Jul 12 at 12:25

We totally need to rename this thing to Palaeo! And change the pronunciation from "pail-e-o" to "pal-e-o". – Dave S. May 14 2012 at 13:43
Kathryn, there are some people out there who do not know much, if anything, about paleo. "Newbies" who don't know much about paleo are welcome here--I encourage you to read the FAQ. – Christopher Gagnon May 14 2012 at 23:58

Considering the ads on the sidebar for tortilla chips, it's easy to see where someone could be confused. – Dave S. May 17 2012 at 17:08
