Sorry, but onion rings will not be a valid answer.

I had access to a set of gymnastics rings for years, until my recent move. I miss them and I think that I need to replace them. The rings that I have always used were an old set of Tyler Haas Power Rings. These were made with steel tubing and always felt rock solid and quite bomb proof. The only thing that I did not like about them was that the webbing buckle was sewn in very close to the ring. It seems that the version of these rings currently available utilizes plastic rings and it seems that the design flaw related to the buckle has been corrected. I'm not sure how I feel about the transparent plastic ring material and I am wondering if anyone has experience with these rings. If so, do you like them? I'm completely open to other brands and will appreciate suggestions for rings manufactured by other companies. So, which rings are your favorite rings? My primary concerns are for simple, strong rings that are really quick and easy to install and remove (I will be using them outdoors and at my gym, so each use will require a fresh installation).

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them. – Dave S. May 14 2012 at 18:13
Those sound like magical rings. Perhaps I could do muscle-ups with those rings! – Ralph Furley May 14 2012 at 18:25

I like the ply wooden rings attached with a prussik, I ended up making my own so I could get bigger gauges. – Scotty Von Porkchop May 15 2012 at 9:47

I have the older version of the plastic EXF rings that have three surfaces (rubber coated, rough and smooth plastic). They're pretty good but the rubber sheds and wears relatively quickly. When I get my next set of rings, I'm buying real, wooden rings. They take chalk a lot better and provide better overall grip.

Thank you, Jim. I've been kicking around the idea of wooden rings. I may give those a try. – Ralph Furley May 14 2012 at 23:05
