So I just started eating more paleo 2 and 1/2 days ago. I cheat with tiny items like a small piece of cheese a day. but haven't had bread or milk or any pastas. now it seems not long after I eat I get a burning time feeling in my stomach like I am hungry but I just ate...I noticed the feeling a few days ago as well after I went number 2(and there was a lot of it...gross I know) I just don't know what to do. it's making me want to cave and go make some toast! I eat eggs each morning. i have spinach with them. i have some fruit and for snack I had some uncured beef hot dogs and some carrots. and than I was making chicken for dinner and I made myself a fruit smoothie with berries, a banana, and almond milk.

tips? hints? help? lol

If you are hungry, then maybe you are not eating enough food? – Dangph May 15 2012 at 11:03
I am. I had 2 pieces of chicken last night with spinach and was still hungry about an hour later. so i had a spinach salad with avacado, tomatoes and a few slices of uncured turkey. and than after that I just tried to ignore the hunger. – Meghan May 15 2012 at 16:28
I get this from caffeine, and I get this from exceptionally poor quality meat. – raney May 15 2012 at 21:48

What brand of hot dogs? I bet they're full of nasty additives... – Blitherakt May 16 2012 at 3:01

From your comments, it's sounding like you're not getting enough good fat. Try an experiment. Eat a huge, honking ribeye steak tonight drowned in grass-fed butter with some veg on the side then see how you feel.

But you may just want to start including some good sources of starch. My meals are fairly LC, but I've been having a daily banana with almond butter mid-day, and it quiets whatever gnawing hunger I may have. And it's awesome. So maybe some sweet potatoes on the side of that steak?

Hang in there it's cravings for carbs...they should stop in a few more days.

I doubt it. Meghan said she eats fruit. – Kasra May 15 2012 at 3:21
Sorry make that low blood sugar craving for carbs so even though she consumes fruit it may still not be enough to bring up her insulin levels where she would feel satiated. Thank you for helping me clarify. – Liloo May 15 2012 at 3:35

Hey Meghan, I had this a little while back and posted about it. http://paleohacks.com/questions/107532/hungry-feeling-but-not-actually-hungry-how-to-help-this#axzz1uqtjsC3d I found in the end I think it was because I ate some spicy chilies in a thai dish that upset my stomach. If it was the thai, I might say your feeling is related to something you ate that maybe burned your stomach a little. Mine went away after a few days, didn't really matter what I ate, it went away by itself.

Meghan, you haven't given us enough information to go on. We would need to know exactly what you eat and how much. Also, what did you change?

Because you haven't given us enough information, I'm going to have to guess.

I'm guessing that you've eliminated grains and dairy, but you haven't replaced them with anything.

Calories come from three places, the "macronutrients": carbs, fats, proteins. If you reduce one of them without increasing the others, you will be eating less calories.

Generally speaking if you reduce carbs, you should increase fats. (Saturated and monounsaturated are good fats. Avoid polyunsaturated as much as possible.)

Like Vivian suggested, if you are going low carb for the first time, your body will take some time to adjust to running on fat.

If you are going low carb and low fat, then that would be crazy.

If you want more carbs, then sweet potatoes, fruit, normal potatoes, and white rice (not strictly paleo) are common choices.

It would be useful for you to track what you are eating for a while in cronometer.com. That will tell you how many calories you are eating, and where they are coming from (carbs, fats, proteins).

I've gotten that, too. I believe it is from all the sulfur I'm ingesting causing the internal gas sounds. Meat and eggs.

I get extremely hungry after consuming Stevia..... Then I simply HAVE to eat.

I had a similar experience when starting. I'd know that I was full from eating, but I'd still get a ginger spike about 30 minutes after eating. It disappeared after a week or so, and at the same time, my so-hungry-I-feel-sick feelings I used to get on the SAD went away.

From what you've listed, I'll also agree that you're not eating anywhere near enough fat. When I started, my typical breakfast was three eggs, three pieces of bacon or a slice of ham; snack before lunch was an avocado with lime; lunch was a burger patty or salmon filet (cooked in bacon fat or ghee), spinach or romaine, good olive oil and vinegar; dinner was something like a pork curry or a ribeye with asparagus and maybe a sweet potato.

Try cutting the vegetables back a bit and adding a bit more fat to see if that doesn't help.
