Hey guys, my brother is training to become a pro soccer player. He's very interested in paleo ideas but gets conflicting advice from his coach re pasta, grains etc. I've been suggesting he investigate safer starches. What is the best book to get for understanding a more carb inclusive athletes paleo diet?

Colpo's The Fat Loss Bible would prove a pretty handy resource, I think. Don't be discouraged by the title. Very clear (and persuasive) on the carb and protein needs of the athlete/ very active. |

The jury's still out really on what the needs actually are for athletes. Obviously Paleo diet for Athletes is useful (as linked to by Kasra) although there are parts of it that are outdated. The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance may be worth a look though many people certainly do well with 'safe' starches. He can probably make a success of whatever approach he wants, so it depends on what he's interested in and learning how to make that work for him. The only sure thing is that his coach isn't an expert on nutrition. |

I'd go with Robb Wolf's Paleo Solution. |
