I drink. Not often, but when I do, it's always rather heroic. So here's the thing; Since going Paleo - I no longer walk in at 5am craving McDonalds Bacon and Egg McMuffins. I now walk in at 5am craving steak, or Paleo pancakes (nut butter, applesauce, eggs and strawberries). I actually can't believe it, as succumbing to 'hangover' food (i.e. in most cases Macaroni Cheese, Spaghetti Carbonara, Burgers burgers burgers) has always been one of my biggest weaknesses - but it seems to have disappeared! Even in my most vulnerable state, I still will not even consider the thought of putting processed grain into my body anymore. It's crazy isn't it? How once we get on the right track, our bodies, even at a subconscious level, know it's good and signal us to keep up the good work. Love this sh*t. Rock on Paleo, that's all I got to say. :D... Anyone else got any similar reports?? I'd love to hear.

Can I get more recipe info on those paleo pancakes? Sounds tasty. – Eva Oct 14 2010 at 4:15
Eva nooooo, candy cigarettes girl, cigarettesssssss. – Ikco Oct 14 2010 at 5:52
Pancakes are from Robb Wolf's book The Paleo Solution: Just mix 2 eggs, 1/2 cup nut butter (Almond is nice) and 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce. That's it! Cook them in some coconut oil and top with more applesauce and fresh berries. :D – mattjc Oct 14 2010 at 20:40
Unfortunately I had one too many pints the other day and it resulted in a bedtime sugar bender. At least I didn't have a hangover... I hope to be like you someday Matt! – Shebeeste Oct 15 2010 at 3:16
Thanx Mattjc. I'll probably make them into muffins instead. Ikco, actually I find that an occasional bread substitute just makes the transistion easier. I used to make the bread subs once per week but now I mostly just make them for other people at work who are trying to eat more healthy. When I provide healthier snacks, they eat those instead of pretzels and candy. Plus I can freeze some of this stuff and use it for an emergency snack for hiking and daytripping. – Eva Oct 15 2010 at 16:03

Saturday night I ended my brother's blow-out birthday party with a plate of bacon at around 2 AM. I shared some with my fellow revelers who are probably all now converted for life to Paleo. End a party with bacon = awesome.

My drink of choice was gin and soda with lots of lime -- sort of a Norcal Gin Rickey.

Robb Wolf actually devotes a section of his book to Paleo drinking. I am not sure if he was actually serious but he says drink the hard stuff, early in the night, get some limes in there and end the night with a nice big protein snack. Advice to live by.

"A habit is something you can do without thinking - which is why most of us have so many of them. " ~Frank A. Clark

Sounds like you are getting past the conscious part and in to the land of habit. When i was first getting there, I called it palate drift... I had managed to change my taste in foods!

The first two week of paleo were tough for me, but I have to admit it's pretty easy now. I'm not fazed by bread at a restaurant or free beagles and donuts at work. I have minute cravings for grain/flour items. I have zero cravings for dairy. The only craving I have is for chocolate, which I can't explain.

Wow - you eat dogs at your workplace?! Now that is taking paleo to the extreme! :) – CT Oct 13 2010 at 14:31
Ha. Wiener dogs are paleo, but only of they're grass-fed and you skip the bun. – Carl_Stawicki Oct 13 2010 at 14:40
Does PETA know about this? – Stephen-Aegis Oct 13 2010 at 19:15
Forget PETA - those 30 bad dudes will be after Carl for eating beagles! – CT Oct 13 2010 at 20:50

I use to eat Pizza every single day - bad news! Now the thought of it makes me disgusted. Even a paleo pizza doesn't sound appetizing. How cool is that?

dc is land of the jumbo slice so a drunk walk home from a bar has a 50% chance of ending with a massive dose of gluten and cheese. i used to do it all the time when i was 'big mike.' it made my stomach very angry in the morning. now even when i've had a few, i know that jumbo pizza is not food. – MikeD Oct 13 2010 at 17:04
