I switched to paleo gradually because the things on the "do not eat" list of the paleo diet corresponded with the foods that would worsen my rheumatoid arthritis. I'm essentially in month one of paleo, but I have to say, even if it weren't for my arthritis, I would still eat this way. Food has such a profound impact on my (and I would argue everyone's) state of mind.

And my state of mind right now? Peace. That is all.

Congrats Dan! Just an FYI - this thread will still be closed eventually as not being a question. But still... congrats! – Joshua May 20 2012 at 16:58
I'm HAPPY to read this! And because it isn't a question, it will be closed. – Dragonfly May 20 2012 at 16:59
I bet it could be turned into a question, though, if you add: "has anyone else had a similar experience?" – tdgor May 20 2012 at 17:47

I'm often surprised that folks DON'T connect what they eat and how they feel. We consume all kinds of terrible junk and then feel terrible. The foods we eat are the building blocks of of our anatomy (along with other things). Unfortunately, the food industry intends to hook us with things that are intentionally addictive but we have to overcome that. Thanks for your reminder.

i'm also surprised, given that beer and weed have big effects on 'personality', but i am also annoyed. we gotta put up with all that crap :) i find it hard not to see irrational fear (eg shyness, fear of heights, home sickness, ...), irrational anger (psychopaths, aggressiveness, ...), and other irrational stuff as "diseases" now – Korion May 20 2012 at 18:15

Me too! And since going Paleo notice very quickly how my mood and outlook take a nose dive when I eat crap. What a great extra, unexpected benefit! You're right Korion - based on what other things we ingest do, it makes sense, but it never crossed my mind.

I have to say that paleo basically cured my depression. It's such a shame that people don't make the connection between diet and mental health, they just conitune to gorge on junk/food they think is healthy like oats and keep popping the antidepressants to try and mask the symptoms!

I've been on and off of antidepressants for more than half my life but I've stopped since eating paleo/primal. I thought I would be on meds for the rest of my life but since stopping my mood seems more stable. Hopefully not placebo effect but will wait and see. Still introverted but I feel more content with that. Glad this diet is working for you!
