I'm only 3 months into Paleo and I'm logging everything on cronometer.com

and

I just bought a fitbit (fancy wireless pedometer which syncs data to fitbit.com).

Every bit of leisure reading during this time has been on health related topics. I read paleohacks.com several times per day, and I listened to all the back podcasts for Robb Wolf and www.undergroundwellness.com

Question:

Did going Paleo make you obsessed with your health or am I just a wack-job?

Just curious,

Mike

It might be that people who are type-A when it comes to health find their way to paleo, and not that paleo makes people health perfectionists. – foreveryoung May 22 2012 at 2:20

Are you healthy? If you are not, it would be understandable if you were obsessed with your health--you need to heal. If you are already in great physical shape, you're only slightly a wack-job ;) – Dan May 22 2012 at 4:58

Well, considering that you built up enough determination to stick for paleo for 3 months and (most likely) stop eating many things you had before, I'd say kind of. Yes, it does make you more focused on your health, but at the same time, you have to be fairly health aware to start it. I know that I personally have been fairly obsessed with my health (4 months strong of paleo) and I wouldn't be if I didn't start off by taking time and effort to go through the conversion to paleo. Pasta used to be a daily thing for me, so it was fairly hellish to convert, but I have no intentions on ever going back just like I have no intentions of ever purposely harming my body. So I'm going to stick with the answer "kind of". But it's probably different for everyone.

I have wondered this also.
My junk food ways have really robbed me of my life. I am highly motivated to get it back again. I need loads of information and support to change my lifestyle at this stage of the game, and need to gather information constantly to stay psyched. When I have practiced the lifestyle changes awhile, I think I'll be less body/food/health obsessed, and it will just be more a natural part of my life.

I was actually more obsessed with my health before going paleo... mainly because I was less healthy. Now that am eating paleo and feeling well nourished and healthier, I'm less concerned/obsessed. I was on a 3 year long search for a diet that would work for me (I have rheumatoid arthritis and many many foods trigger flare-ups), and during that period there was so much weighing of options and calculations it was very stressful.

Now that I have a solid base of foods that cover all my nutritional bases, I don't have to calculate as much and I don't worry as much. That said, I eat pretty strictly. But I don't stress about it anymore because I know it makes me feel awesome.

I am in a similar boat to Dan W. Except I don't have any issues besides cramping during a heavy workload (Tough Mudder type challenges) and I was only looking for less than a year. I think as soon as I got my first iPhone I started tracking this stuff and also we had a fitness challenge at work using a pedometer. Anyway, since I found Paleo (through the Fat Burning Man podcast) I have been less strict with myself. I have probably obsessed more about what my friends and family are doing though. I am now the know-it-all nutrition dude haha. But I have backed off since I first discovered it – Jay Killeen Oct 16 at 8:46

Well, I started eating the Paleo or Primal way last August, and I enjoy looking up information about it whenever I'm on the internet. I'm actually looking to write a perzine on the subject with my own experiences + Paleo/Primal information as well.

But it's the same with Rocky Horror, or cartoon dolls. I don't advocate it to other people unless they complain to me directly about health woes, or am very strict about my eating & exercise routines (in fact, I haven't started to exercise yet haha).
