Anyone here eating high fruit? Personally I have been 80/10/10, Low-carb heavy meat, and now currently eating tons of fruit, dark greens, pastured eggs and grass-fed beef. Who hear is eating alot of fruit? More carbs then typically recommended.
I love fruit and I think it's definitely a larger part of the human diet than most people put it out to be. No! Your not going to get fat from eating fruit. If you overeat you will, but if your eating organic fruit and keeping active I seriously doubt the carbs from fruit will make you fat.. Just wondering. Who hear is eating more carbs from fruit then usual and experiencing positive benefits.
I think the aversion to fruit consumption in some paleo circles, is probably a bit over-done. I don't think humans should be considered frugavores by nature, based on the diets of distant primate relatives, but I also don't think fruit should be considered dangerous to eat because of some fructose content.
I eat as much fruit as I want and never had a problem with it. Of course, I never really want to eat more than a couple pieces a day. I'm sure if I ate a whole bag of apples every day it would in fact affect weight loss.
I'm experimenting with more fruit- I've never been a big fruit eater, but would like to transition to more raw & less rich fatty stuff for the summer months and see how I do with it. We'll see how it goes!
I'm still trying to figure out if there is such a thing as "too much fruit" as far as the fructose level is concerned. I see so many different answers to that, I'm not sure what to think.
I don't have a weight problem, in fact I am pretty underweight (5'7", 106 pounds). I love fruit, eating several apples each day, bananas, raisins, blueberries with cream, whatever is in season.
I don't worry about carbs, but I am concerned about fructose. Do you worry about that, too?
I do! I've been lurking around here trying to hack my poor digestion, small amount of pimples that keep popping up, depression, bloating, and tiredness.
It's too early to tell for sure, but for about a month I've been experimenting with lots of fruit and even dates and honey. I know that's a big no-no around here, but you asked the question :D I also practically dropped out most vegetables (I still eat tubers on occassion) at the time. I know that veggies are nutrient dense, but it is so much easier to digest food without them.
My real experience has been that the increased intake of sugar has boosted my mood and sleep. I was not a low-carb paleo eater before this, I ate plenty of starch and fruit. Since I've cut out most starch and relied mostly on fruits, however, my digesion is almost 100% perfect, I don't bloat as easily (happened once this month, and I think it was due to nerves), I feel significantly more powerful and happier, my face is a bit less inflamed, and I have more energy than ever before.
My findings seem at odds with everything I've learnt about sugar and fructose. For me at least, sugar is not the bad guy! Just shows how different we all are, and not to presume we know something about another's biology.
I do. I'm on a gaining path and also utilize tubers, sweet potatoes, loads of leafy greens - about 2lb of kale weekly, and other veg in addition to my meat, fish, eggs. I try to keep things seasonal as much as possible, so right now with all the berries coming in I eat, give or take, in a week:
So about a cup a day.
In addition over summer I'll have, in small amounts, cherries, plums, apricots. Maybe some bites of watermelon. In the morning post workout and then before bed.
Again, my goals are different and as not one sock fits all.. my berry sock probably won't fit most :) This works for me - I'm healthy and active.
Note: I don't eat dried fruit and only occasionally banana and rarely nuts.
After a month of super low carb Paleo and some body fat gain/blotation/crankiness/low energy and poor workouts, I decided to add a cup of blueberries a day to the mix. After 3 days of this, the carb cravings came back with a vengeance and I caved to some chocolate, amongst other carby goodness. Now I'm down to 1/2 cup. Interestingly enough, the bloat is gone and I feel better than ever, had a great workout today, and it's the time of the month I should be the most bloated....so this is really telling for me.
On the LC Paleo/ketosis which I did for a month, I ate high fat, and after tearing this website apart for answers as to why I was gaining while eating almost no carbs, I think I was 'drinking my calories' in the form of heavy cream, which I have to admit, I love.
I'm going to try a couple things in the quest to find out what works for me. First, fasted exercise in the morning after a cup of green tea. Second, count calories. Third, 1 day a week of higher carbs (but still paleo, of course) the day before my long hiking day, to see if replenishing glycogen will improve my workout (and my mood). The rest of the week is slight caloric deficit, and adding in HIIT 2 to 3 times a week.
I favor vegetables over fruits because of the way fruits have been selected to taste sweeter and sweeter; after a year of no fruits, I ate a pear and was quite surprised as how sweet it tasted, and they are supposed to be one of the lowest in carbs intake.
However, I do think a pear/apple/banana etc. 30min before a work out cannot do harm.
