linseeds / flaxseeds are they good? i soak them for 12 hours prior to blending them in my smoothie, i read that it is really important to soak them and ground them before consuming them as this makes them much more digestible. I have read that they are great for you and really low carb, is this true? Thanks.

There are lots of big claims for what flax can do. The fiber no doubt does some good, but the big claims are for omega-3 and lignan benefits.

It's hard to find any substantiation for these claims. I did find this small study on CV effects

http://www.annieappleseedproject.org/efofflaxconb.html

which shows that, aside from raising triglycerides, flaxseeds do virtually nothing.

soaked flax (unground) is good as an egg alternative in baking.

Flax however is said to be bad for anyone who has cancer, can't recall why exactly!!

High fiber and can be sprinkled on yogurt and fruit for more fiber

I've seen comments somewhere about the inability to digest whole flax seeds. They need to be ground to release the oil. – thhq May 22 at 23:23
