Should I try it for My acne and skin problems?

Can anyone write a list of foods allowed and not allowed on this diet, having trouble finding information about it and how to do it properly.

My sister also had acne before she went on BC, so I'm guessing the chances are big I have hormonal imbalance. I'm male 22 and had acne for 6 years now. Very very depressed cos of it

If you do not mind me asking, what have you tried so far in terms of diet, supplements, etc.? – VB May 23 2012 at 9:26
Pretty much everything suggested on here and have spent thousands of dollars on supplements and other stuff. It won't go away, egen I didnt know better I was on antibiotics and accutane. Acne always came back after treatment. – Lost and found May 23 2012 at 10:16
Could you list the suppliments? Could you list your typical daily menu with drinks and all? Paleo varies widely from Primal to no-fruit no-nuts meat only. – VB May 23 2012 at 12:15
The best Ray Peat eating guidelines are at this link: forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=419742 A bunch of Peatarians have put together his dietary recommendations by going through his work and asking him questions. – Dave S. May 23 2012 at 13:40
@Lost-and-found Definitely give it a go. It's important to eat enough fruit sugar (as soon as I don't I get hypoglycemic and that's when I get acne, sometimes it takes 10 minutes for a whole zit to grow). – Korion May 24 2012 at 7:35

I think the general Peat recommendations for acne involve getting enough Vitamin A (retinol form) from things like dairy products and liver. To this end, you should ensure that your Vitamin D levels are sufficient too.

For more information I would check out raypeat.com, dannyroddy.com and peatarian.com

Diet can really help get rid of acne. But each individual is an individual case and there's not a one cure fixes all solution. Also each type of spot is caused by different issues. So you need to know what is going on in your body to get to the root cause. Check out Elaine Mummery Acne Clinic or CureofAcne. you will get some good info there.

If you are looking for something to try I would suggest IF via leangains.

Namely, eating within an 8 hour period every day. I've been doing it for the past few days and apart from some fat loss I also noticed a improvement in my acne (which did not go away after paleo).

Daily's Mincol has been the solution for acne. I know three individuals who had serious acne that completely cleared by taking 6/day.

Ray Peat diet is likely not to help you if you have acne. Peat allows dairy and dairy causes acne in lots of people. Peat advocates drinking fruit juice. This can cause an insulin spike and thus acne because fruit juices are rapidly digested. Peat also advocates higher carb diets. People with acne do better at low carb ranges, that is, 50-70 grams a day.

Bad logic. You're applying broad generalizations in a specific instance. Just because "dairy causes acne in lots of people" doesn't mean it will to the asker of this question. Same for your comment about carb ranges. Bottom line is if what you've been trying doesn't work, try something else. Peat is a good alternative. – j3wcy May 31 at 18:01
i have acne and i done amazing with high carb and high fat, so to say low carb is better is incorrect – hardeepsura Aug 30 at 15:23

From what I know, acne is a sign of inflammatory damage. I don't think any diet along can fix the root causes of acne, but it would be nice to know what exactly you are eating or NOT eating. Acne/skin problems is just a sign that something is not right on the inside. I would love for you to try Ray Peat and come back and write if it worked for you or not since I have seen so many questions on acne. EDITED/ I am yet to see people who got better on Ray Peat EXCEPT Korion and Danny Roddy. Only two people so far. I have not heard from any more, and would love to know what they think.

@Korion - lactose intolerance? Ray Peat is the problem because, according to most sources " It is estimated that 75% of adults worldwide show some decrease in lactase activity during adulthood." <en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose_intolerance>; You mean that 75% of all adults have a problem, especially 90% Asians who do not get osteoporosis like the European folks? Korion, I am glad Ray Peat works for you. I would like to hear from thous thousands of people who got better. To me he makes very little sense. Sorry. – VB May 31 at 15:51

Korion, I don't know hundreds and thousands of people. I wish they all would identify themselves. I only know you - and I actually don't even know you. I assume everything you say is true, but if you know thousands of people, would you be willing to share their email addresses as well? – VB May 31 at 15:52

I think I know why it worked in your case. My guess is that you have completely depleted your body's resources on LC and VLC and ZC. I bet that just plain Paleo with high amount of starchy veggies and fruits would work for you. But I am eager to hear from other people's stories about Ray Peat's experience. I was even thinking about asking a question about it. – VB May 31 at 16:52

"Lactose intolerance : milk isn't the problem, you're the problem".??? There are a lot of problems with this statement. 1) We NATURALLY lose our ability to break down lactose. Obviously, certain people come from groups that have adapted to the use of dairy and continue to digest it through adulthood. Good for them, they can keep eating all the dairy that they want. – EDubs May 31 at 17:04

@Korion - no, I don't know what works for you. You know it better than everybody else. If his diet is better than Paleo - I would do it myself, would not even think twice. Really. But 1. I do not have enough data from others. 2. I do not know how well people on his diet would compare to people on high carb Primal 3. I cannot accept his reasons for eating this or that. Basically, it would be interesting for me to find out what exactly you eat. But I cannot ask a question just for one person - you. I am not attacking Ray Peat. I am questioning his statements. I hope it is okay with you. – VB May 31 at 20:03
