So you don't have diarrhoea and only mild constipation. Do you actually experience pain or any discomfort. Because 'just' constipation doesn't make it IBS... – Ben Jun 6 at 23:19

Why such restriction? Have you looked into the GAPS protocol or SCD (specific carb diet) to help combat the overgrowth?

You are more concerned with the overgrowth causing the gas than the constipation correct?

I'd look into GAPS and SCD and see if thats a more complete way of dealing with the whole problem, as well as the IBS.

good luck!!

Thank you ! do you think I have too much restriction? – Matteo May 23 2012 at 22:40
yes, I know some people have no choice but to eat like this but if you don't, I don't see why you'd want to be so restrictive unless its just to start a base and then add things in like an elimination diet...that would be helpeful to you in that form. – Kelly May 24 2012 at 11:22

You are not eating properly, in my opinion. There is no reason why you should not be eating more kinds of vegetables. Eating only carrots won't give you all the nutrients you need from plants. Also, eating some fruit is good too. If you are not allergic to nuts, also try some coconut oil to cook, in addition to olive oil, and a few almonds/walnuts in the week. And if you can tolerate dairy, go for some home-made goat kefir (it has helped me a lot with IBS).

Have you experimented yet with this way of eating? Or are you just asking if eating this way will help?

My husband started eating the Paleo/Primal way after he saw it working for me. He was "diagnosed" with IBS and had it for nearly two years prior to changing his diet. He had diarrhea on a mostly daily basis; it was terrible. Nothing the doctors did for him worked (his one doctor even told him to avoid broccoli & fiber...what??).

When he started eating Paleo/Primal, his problems started going away! No more constipation or diarrhea! Take that how you will.

thank you! i really think that IBS doesn't exist.. IBS is the rebellion of our gut for eating what we are not born to eat :) – Matteo May 23 2012 at 22:41
And from what I know, IBS is a sort of umbrella term for when they just really don't know why you're having these problems. They even had him get a freaking colonoscopy and they still didn't find anything from that! – Veriria May 24 2012 at 14:59
IBS stands for irritable bowel SYNDROME, which means it's just a term given to a number of syndromes that occur together (or at least some of them). When there would be only one cause, it is called a disease. In some people, it's only psychosomatic, in others it's SIBO, in others it's overload and overflow, in others it's an undiagnosed food intolerance (which technically isn't IBS),... – Ben Jun 6 at 23:16

I would be careful sounds like your getting enough fiber... carrots is not enough on a daily basis... and would cause havoc on your system.
