I had a colonoscopy a few years back before paleo, I am supposed to get another one as a follow-up soon. Since paleo all of my IBS symptoms are gone as well as the GERD. I now eat pretty clean and take kombucha and water kefir daily. As part of the prep for a colonosccopy you are supposed to basically empty the bowels by fasting then taking pico-salax or some type of magnesium solution. My question is about the mag flush. Will I lose the good gut flora that I have been trying build up? I'm not worried about the fasting part as I already do a 16/8 fast now.

Can't wait to hear the responses... I have a colonoscopy scheduled in 3 weeks... – alzsunrise May 24 2012 at 22:27
to be honest I don't have a scheduled appt now, but when they did the first one, he said to do a follow up one 2 years later as he said averthing was ok. I am thinking of not even scheduling it because all the problems I had are gone now, but if I do decide to do it, I would like to know this answer as I may base my decision on it. – missionman May 24 2012 at 22:31
Why bother with a colonoscopy if you are well? – Kasra May 24 2012 at 23:47
That's my point Kasra, I don't think I will, but I just want to know in case. A bigger question I have thought of since i posted; if it does rid gut flora, then would doing a pre-colonoscopy protocol clear the system so to speak so that I could repopulate with good bacteria? – missionman May 25 2012 at 0:00

oh, thanks. I did scan over the titles when I created this question as happens when you post a question, but I obviously overlooked it. – missionman May 25 2012 at 1:04
