I kept reading about raw/runny egg yolks added to a cooked meal and decided to try it today.I normally hard-boil my eggs or scramble them up with something. I used to be afraid of raw eggs but read on this forum that it is really the uncooked egg white that was the problem. I decided that hey, PH has awesome people and I should try this out.
I had some leftover grass-fed beef cooked with some eggplant (random, I know...but it was on sale!) and greens. I heated it up with one egg white. After it was done cooking, I threw the raw egg yolk in, mixed it a little...and it is AMAZING. How was I living before this?
So, what's something you didn't eat or drink pre-paleo but have since discovered and love?
Edit: and now my stomach hurts a little but that might also be because I decided to heat up more just so I could experience the raw egg magic again. But I'm done now, ha ha.
I used to absolutely hate anything coconut. Now my kitchen is filled with coconut oil, coconut cream, coconut flakes, etc... It's funny because I think it's replaced my obsession with almonds. The other day my husband asked why I haven't been eating almond butter anymore ha.
I think I avoided a lot of red meat and anything that wasn't a neat little baked chicken breast or cute steamed white fish filet because I thought for some reason it wasn't feminine to eat "messy meat" or anything fatty. I don't know how to explain it, but now when I hear all my lady friends say they just don't like red meat, I have to wonder if they really don't or if we've been brainwashed into thinking that a girl who eats a burger is less feminine.
My boyfriend, who I have converted to primal, says that nothing makes him happier than watching me gnaw on a lamb bone. I have to agree.
I get so excited when my broth is so thick I can use a fork to pull it out of the container. I make "muhahahaha" noises and just coat the backs of spoons with it to see how beautiful and shiny it is. I used to make pretty good broth back in normal-food-days, but now it is my favorite thing ever. I am happy just thinking about it.
I used to like oysters a bit- I thought they were okay, we had them a lot when I was little so I was pretty used to them off the BBQ, but they were never my favourite. I would have picked lots of things to eat before oysters. Now they are my new PMS food- I can destroy 2 dozen oysters for a snack. I asked for a raw oyster feast for my birthday this year, with seaweed salad on the side. Opposite of birthday pizza.
I swear to God that I used to hate bacon. The flavor, the texture, the smell, everything about it. When my husband and I switched to paleo, he started making bacon for breakfast a couple of times a week and, as we progressed, I got more and more interested in it. One day, I asked if I could have a little nibble from his plate. One taste and I promptly lost my mind over it. How did I go through 25 years despising these little slabs of porky, fatty heaven? I have so much to make up for. So much lost time...
So. That's my answer. Haha.
