Eating well should lead to weight loss. Eating SADly, often doesn't.

What are your thoughts on a joining Paleo "WeightWatchers" style meetingss to help you reach your goal?

For folks that are interested in losing weight and keeping it off, would you be interested going to a local support group for accountability from peers, paleo coaches and having a workout plan designed by a personal trainer?

This would help people through the spectrum of WAPF, Primal, Paleo, low carb, GAPS etc.

Few questions:

1- What if this was done not locally but online via webcams or conference calls? Would this be more/less helpful to you?

2- Would a secular mindfulness based stress reduction and meditation component be interesting for emotional eaters?

3- What else would you like to see or not see in a group like this?

We could do it online with free video conferencing software. Can get up to 6 people in the free version of oovoo i think. – Joy May 25 2012 at 19:18

I'm kind of a lone wolf, so it's not something I'd join, but I do know people who would love that kind of community and group support. I think it would be a great idea. – More Butter Please May 25 2012 at 22:09

To be honest I don't like how focused this diet is on weight loss. I know that a lot of people come here for that but weight loss and health are usually synonymous.

I think a reason paleo gets a bad rep is because it's seen as a diet when in reality it's a lifestyle, and it's quite frustrating when most question regard weight loss

I might get repped down for this but it's how I feel

Health > weight loss

Weight loss is a side effect of eating right. A good one! – ThinnerStrength May 25 2012 at 19:22
how could it not be? – HuntingBears May 25 2012 at 19:30

You can overeat on any diet. Some people have metabolic issues. Etc. – ThinnerStrength May 25 2012 at 19:33

Not to mention emotional eating. – ThinnerStrength May 25 2012 at 19:34
yea but to disregard the idea of weight loss being as a result of healthy eating is wrong, also you might find hormonal issues balancing out on this diet somewhat. I know weight loss can be complex for some people but if you're following low carb you should see some results, that's the point of paleo for people losing weight I think – HuntingBears May 25 2012 at 19:36

I think it would be a nice change to have someone to shares my struggles and successes with. It would also be lovely to share ideas and ask questions to real life people. Fabulous idea.

I think it's a good idea. Though I agree that eating well should lead to weight loss, I would appreciate having someone to bounce ideas off of and just to commiserate with. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who isn't an athlete or for whom the weight isn't falling off like gangbusters.

nope, the weight's not falling off me like gangbusters either, but I do feel good so sticking with it – Judi May 25 2012 at 20:31

You can't fault the success of them, they are great for many people. Not for me though. If I need support I would do it anonymously on forums.
