Looks pretty good, you might need to eat a little more, and don't freak out if you suddenly have meat or veggie aversions, very common in early pregnancy.

Emphasize fat over protein (high protein diets aren't great for the developing baby). If you tolerate dairy, full fat cheese, butter, milk and cream can sometimes help with the nausea, and there is an uptick in the need for calcium and fat, so have at it.

Eat to satiety, and to sustain energy, eat whatever gets you through the morning sickness if you have it (seriously do not beat yourself up about straying, sometimes you just need to eat what you crave to stop the nausea). I went from 2-3 meals large meals to more frequent smaller ones to keep the nausea at bay.

Congrats and good luck!

thank you so much! I forgot to add that I used coconut oil to cook and have avocados too. – curly16 May 25 2012 at 20:56
I say, emphasize clean fat AND protein. Both are important in pregnancy and easy in Paleo! Do you eat eggs? – LionMama May 25 2012 at 22:06

I thought this was an interesting article about why it might be a good idea to reduce protein intake a bit during pregnancy. perfecthealthdiet.com/2010/07/… – Happy Now May 25 2012 at 22:10

I've transited from Paleo to Perfect Health Diet during pregnancy - adding potatoes and rice has helped immensely w/ nausea and meat aversion. – Jessica G May 25 2012 at 23:47

I was meat averse during the first part of my pregnancy... I never had nausea but I had a desperate craving for cheese quesadillas and veggies in butter. Yikes.

In my case, I needed to eat more in the mornings. I did eggs but added some meat (ground beef with greens, bacon, sausage) and avocado when available. I'd have full fat milk and yogurt on occasion but didn't care to make a habit out of it. I know that Diane Sanfilippo (sorry if I mangled her name) recommends raw dairy if you're going to consume it at all during your pregnancy.

I made banana/almond "paleo" muffins as snacks and I also needed to carry nuts and seeds on me. My water intake also skyrocketed to 3-4 liters per day.

It does sound like you're going to eat more in order to keep up your energy, and sustain yourself and your baby. Good luck to you!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! It seems like you are low on calories, even for a non-pregnant woman. You should be eating a minimum of 1800 calories per day during pregnancy and you should gain 25-35lbs over the course of the pregnancy (more if you started at less than 100lbs). This would be the time to indulge in some full-fat dairy (if you can tolerate it) or Paleo "treats."
