I am wondering if the black spots that appear on my soaked almonds are mold...I soaked them for about 24 hours, and dry them in a low over, like i normally do, but this time there are black spots forming. They do not smell or taste bad (yes, I tried a few), but I am worried that it is mold and I should not be eating them...any thoughts?

That sounds like mold, and I would advise you to not eat them!

definitely mold, toss immediately.

I only soak them up to 12 hours (overnight) then rinse them well before dehydrating. Do you add salt to the water??

I would say that if you're questioning it, you shouldn't eat it. Sure sounds like it. I haven't read anything to indicate that this is something naturally occurring after a soak. Were they soft before soaking?

Thanks guys...Darn. I hate to throw them away, but def better to be safe than sorry. I do add salt...maybe this was just a bad batch of almonds.
