I have been following a paleo meal plan for one month. I feel great, want to convert a few friends and family members. I had my blood work done several months ago and would like to go back just to prove to my doctor that I am healthy - previously I was told that I am uninsurable due to having a BMI of 35 but with no health problems. My cholesterol was 205, fasting blood sugar was 97.

So, it's 3 months later, one month of paleo. Maybe 5 lb weight loss - wish that could be more. But if I go back and the numbers haven't changed or worse, have gone up, I'll never get insurance. What if...? (BTW, I have no plans to go back to carbs if the news is bad - truly, I have never felt so good).

It could take up to 6 months for your lipids to improve. Font to back too soon. Tighten up the diet and check your calories. Exercise. – GurlzLuvSteak May 26 2012 at 17:06

What do you typically eat? Imo your weightloss seems alittle on the low side. But then i dont know your body composition. I'd say give it some more time before you go back to your doctor.

Yours is the lifelong question about the lifestyle and results. If the results are ever less than what you are striving for, its time to evaluate your discipline with the diet. Unless you have some severe hormone disorder, there is no way Paleo will not yield results. How strict is your diet? What can you tighten up on? More omega3, sufficient magnesium/zinc/vit k/vit d supply? How well are you reducing prolonged stress, and cortisol? How are doing with your sleep? My wife went through the same doubts, and doubtable outcomes for the costar few weeks on Paleo, and since we tightened up, she has never looked back. Good luck.

When you say "tighten up", what do you mean? As for sleep - great. I no longer have the 2-4AM wake up. Stress levels are normal. I am post-menopausal - no HRT, never had it. Eat greens of some sort each day (kale, spinach) I have a shellfish allergy and have gotten sick (from cross contamination) eating regular fish that I pretty much avoid it, maybe once a month, we eat trout. Soy allergy keeps me from taking supplements - unless they specify, the vitamin E comes from soy. I eat 3-4 days a week, have no hunger for a day, just drink water and then go back to eating. – Lauren May 26 2012 at 19:18

It will work. Evaluate what you are eating, and keep going. IMHO 5 pounds is still 5 pounds so don't get down on yourself.

Consider having your own labs done via an online provider, then visit your doctor when the numbers are where you want them. They should improve regardless of weight-loss.
