Every day I wake up my stomach has shrunk from the day before and I feel great. During the day I often get very bloated and always put it down to food - but now I started Intermittent fasting and still feel bloated. I thought maybe too much water but read somewhere green tea on an empty stomach is bad for bloating. I'm just totally fed up bloating and feeling fat every evening. I eat really well, no dairy, wheat, grains, processed foods...the only thing I tend to eat a lot that I think could cause it is onions...but that doesn't explain the bloating whilst fasting. Should I take probiotic tablets? Or is there some other cause?

Try eating from the low FOMAP fruit/veggie groups and see how you do. http://uvahealth.com/services/digestive-health-1/images-and-docs/low_FODMAP_diet.pdf

I've found that the more dialed in you become, the more chronic inflammation and GI problems you fix. It's an adjustment. I eat as clean as possible but I still find that certain foods, including starchy vegetables (sweet potatoes) and large amounts of cruciferous veggies (broccoli, brussel sprouts, kale) tend to make me feel bloated. Not to get too specific, but I'm also very regular with bowel movements, and they tend to be in the late morning/early afternoon, after my first meal and after my workout.

I don't think it's that I'm actually bloated at night, but I only feel that way compared to the early morning (which is usually 10-12 hours since my last meal) and after the daily bowel movement. Back in the day, I never felt the difference, and that's what I've seen with others too. Instead, they are just in a constantly inflamed and bloated state and it's very difficult to tell. When you have those moments of almost feeling "empty", they magnify that much more the times when you eat something that causes distress and/or bloating because it's so easily recognizable.

So do u think just getting used to IF and Paleo eating is all I need? Admittedly I've only been on Paleo for a few weeks so maybe it is just an adjustment thing as I'm having a lot more veggies than I used to. Including some I never had before like broccoli, asparagus, mushrooms. So any advice or just stick it out and it will get better? – Leanne May 26 2012 at 21:31
I'd only do the IF once everything else seems to be working. That's a personal decision though. Otherwise, my general advice without knowing specifics would be to still drink plenty of water and make sure you get enough fat. For me, those things seem to keep things flowing better. On days when I incorporate huge amounts of protein or certain starch, I notice a difference in bloating and "movements." Maybe this is just a personal thing, but in general, a Paleo approach with plenty of veggies, fruit, nuts and fat should keep the long-term bloating and constipation at bay. Stay with it. – KA24 May 27 2012 at 3:20

Today I fasted lean gain style and didn't have green tea, just water, and even now that I've ate I feel fine. I also am planning on cutting out veggies like onions and tomatoes in high quantity. I bought probiotic tablets and feeling much better. :)

How about portion size? After fasting are you shoveling lbs of your food in 1 sitting?

Not at all, if anything I don't eat enough. I do try and eat more but it never happens - (127lb 5ft7, female, 20yrs old) – Leanne May 27 2012 at 14:51

How is your bloating going? I am 2 months into this diet. Sometimes I feel phenomenal (especially when I first began) now bloated for at least one part of every single day. No burping for me though. It sucks. I can't figure it out. I'm tired of trying to figure it out. I can't seem to track the cause :(. Felt so good when I first changed my diet. My whole body is leaning out, but I have this random belly bloating :/

You are low on enzymes. Try digestive enzymes supplement.
