Currently I am drinking just one cup of upgraded bulletproof coffee a day. Is there any benefit to cycling off on say Saturdays and Sundays? Currently I haven't had any since Friday morning (12:30am had to work late one night) I feel mostly fine with a very light headache. Is it worth going through the withdrawal process every weekend? Would the stress of the withdrawal be worse than my low dose coffee? If anyone has any insight, I'd appreciate any advice. I also take some nootropics, and plan to cycle them off on the weekend as well.

What nootropics do you take? – Kasra May 26 2012 at 22:19

Currently just aniracetame, piracetame, choline citrate. Sometimes huperzine-A. I ordered some DMAE and some Vinpocetine for a stack, I plan to start taking. I take this stuff in the morning with upgraded bulletproof coffee using the pharmaceutical grade mct oil. Before a recent breakdown in well-being, I was sober and using piracetame and choline daily, along with meditation. My short term memory was insane. I had to do some food training at work, in a group setting. I recalled all the information, I just learned. The group was impressed with this ability. I also work dual-n-back training. – That One Guy May 26 2012 at 23:46

You should cycle off. You wanna know why? You'll never get a case of the Mondays, cause you'll be like hell yeah, coffee day. – smackles May 27 2012 at 0:15
+1 for upgraded bulletproof coffee, my "breakfast" on weekdays! – MathGirl72 May 27 2012 at 0:56
Mathgirl72, are you actually using Dave Aspreys coffee? People like to think hes a marketer just out for money, but his blog is high traffic with tons of free quality content. I don't see ads all over the place, so he sells some stuff to cover the cost. I am planning on working many of the bio-hacks he discusses, into my life. Why I never heard of mct oil before his site is astonishing. I've been using coconut oil for years, and I am aware of medium chain triglycerides. – That One Guy May 27 2012 at 7:05

Honestly, a daily dose of quality coffee (12-16 oz of UC) with the healthy fats (like in BPC) isn't a problem and is likely very beneficial. I don't see any benefits of not consuming it everyday unless it's becoming something that is an addiction above and beyond your control. I personally consume it every day and instead of it being a stimulant that allows me to function, I view it as an infusion of nutrition that helps me function more optimally.

Yeah, other than this mild headache, I feel fine. I just worked up a sweat playing with my 2 year old nephew. It's now too late in the day for a cup of coffee. I am thinking maybe a few squares of 90 dark chocolate may help to get rid of this light headache. – That One Guy May 26 2012 at 21:51

KA24 - could you explain the 'infusion of nutrition' comment? What nutritional value does coffee have? Genuine question here as I thought coffee was just a stimulant? – PaleoUK May 26 2012 at 22:05
Coffee is a high source of antioxidants. phys.org/news6067.html I just melted some 4 squares of 90% dark chocolate in some coconut milk and now the headache is gone. – That One Guy May 26 2012 at 22:16
It contains magnesium, among some other nutrients, as well. – Kasra May 26 2012 at 22:17
There are a ton of studies about the benefits of coffee. People run into problems, from what I've seen, when it's overconsumed and it messes with other hormones and issues in the stomach. Someone having 1-2 cups a day won't have issues. I think many of the "addictions" to coffee, at least from the general public is overblown. Much of the reasoning for using coffee in the first place (fatigue, caffeine, to wake up, etc...) are generally because other parts of the diet are lacking. – KA24 May 27 2012 at 0:58

I see no reason to cycle off the coffee.
