I've gotten a little tired of the same old beef stews I've been making so I've decided to take the plunge and get some goat from the local halal store. Does anyone have a great goat stew recipe? I've googled it and seen plenty out there. Which one do you like best?

I just love your question. I have never even heard of a goat stew. Would it be possible to follow the beef stew recipe with some adjustments? What about lamb stew? Lamb taste better. – VB May 27 2012 at 17:03
How about rabbit stew? I've always been a fan of Yostemite Sam. – Mambo May 27 2012 at 17:27
I've never had rabbit before. I don't know where you'd buy it, and I'm not much of a hunter. An Indian friend of mine made goat stew once. It was very tasty. I'm sure you could make it with lamb too, but I thought I'd be a little adventurous. – trjones May 27 2012 at 18:12

The only way to eat goat is "Curry Goat", which is a Caribbean staple. It's not a curry like an Indian Curry (although the dish originated in India) but more like a spicy goat stew.

There is a good recipe here (give or take a few Paleo ingredients): http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2009/aug/23/levi-roots-caribbean-carnival-feast

It's usually served with rice and plantain, but of course that's optional if you don't eat grains (I don't).

This is the original Greek goat soup recipe, from the department of Epirus in Greece: http://eugenia.queru.com/2011/04/03/goat-soup/

i made this the other day and used goat instead of the lamb that it calls for and it was extremely good. You just have to cook it for longer as goat is tougher.

Any Indian style lamb curry can be adapted for goat. Goat curry with Indian spices is delicious! Slow cooker or pressure cook. Marinate with turmeric, salt and lemon ideally for 4 hours at least (24-48 hours even better)! Google and you will get some results. Have fun!
