Recently, I was reflecting upon my "exercise history" and I noticed a pattern...

Early childhood - no shoes, played on playground, climbed trees, riding bikes, imaginary games, etc.

Late childhood - organized sports

Middle school - video games, as little exercise/movement as possible

High school - bodybuilding/powerlifting

College/early adulthood - "functional fitness"

Adulthood - Vibram Five Fingers, Mov Nat, Parkour, mountain biking, rock climbing, etc. (aka "early childhood")

While I still incorporate all of the phases of my fitness "evolution" in my weekly routine (a few days of heavy lifting, some sports, kettlebells, etc.) my primary interest has definitely returned to play and the exploration of the world through my body and movement. Along with this, fitness "for fitness' sake" and masochistic "grinding" workouts have also lost much of their appeal.

My question is, have any of you noticed an "evolution" in your own fitness goals/programs? Have you found that these have changed as you aged? Has anyone else come "full circle" and has this coincided with adopting a "paleo" diet?

My path doesn't follow yours as I was more "functional/power" in highschool AND college as a wrestler....then Power/bodybuilding post grad.

I did come full circle in a sense:

Adult: Back to play with my kids (trampline, biking, walks, and wrestling around) and hitting the trails, but I have one day a week I'm sure to hit the weights extra hard (Do a BBS workout 1x/week). Works real well at the time. Consistent gains for the past 6 months.
