Just looking for some suggestions on air fresheners. I have received complaints about making the house smell like bacon :)

I tend to stay away from any type of plugin products and most sprays because I have notice some allergic symptoms flare up and I usually have very little problem with allergies.

I was thinking Potpourri but was looking for some other suggestions.

Thanks!

Boil cinnamon sticks and cloves, with a little orange peel. Great fall scent. However, I see nothing wrong with bacon ;)

Grok probably didn't bother with air fresheners.

That being said, a straight-up pot-pourri without added scents, preservatives, colourants, flame retardants or other chemicals is probably pretty Paleo, especially if you focus on including only plants that are known for certain to be present in the Paleolithic fossil record, and avoiding modern varietals...

Dried eucalyptus in a vase will work. And looks nice too

Why anyone would complain about the smell of bacon is beyond me. :)

...but that being said, you can boil lemon rinds after cooking bacon, making jerky, etc. to cover up the smell. Along the same lines, you can throw a few lemons in the oven, bake them for 15 minutes or so, and then crack open the oven door while they cool off.

If you're not into citrus, you can add vanilla extract to water and boil. Or, you can just place vanilla into small cups and strategically plant them around the house.

Also, if the weather's nice and you have screens...opening the windows will do wonders.

I run a window fan on "suck" mode (I'm assuming that, like me, you don't have an oven hood with a fan/filter) and burn incense. It does bother me when I get to work and notice my clothes smell like bacon but only because it's not a bacon friendly environment. Ditto the suggestion of simmering cinnamon, etc. (or just make some chai). Also I'm very sensitive to fragrances (Febreeze makes me break out), but Lemon/Lime/Orange mist doesn't bother me: http://www.orangemate.com/pages/about.html I've found it in natural food stores.

Buy a dehydrator and make your own dried fruit. Your house can smell like bananas, apples, berries, kiwi, etc for hours and you'll gain something healthy (in moderation) for your efforts.

I heard cilantro has a nice lemony smell. And it's supposed to be great to use in food. Although I've heard that some people hate the taste while others love it.

What about scented candles?

I just buy whatever big pillar candles are on clearance at the usual-suspect places like Marshalls/TJX/Ross in the US, and use a Method scented-oil thingie in the bathroom (which is where I smoke). I never noticed any downside though I guess the candle ingredients could be iffy. I am not paying absurd money for tallow or beeswax candles. But I would avoid the industrial sprays e.g. Lysol/Febreze.

And WTF is up with so many apartments/condos in the US with no kitchen exhaust? I just browned up some short ribs and oxtail in bacon fat to go into the crock pot and now my place reeks and it's too cold to open a window. Grrr.

most fragrances like glade plugins have phthalates in them. you don't want to be walking around your house inhaling that crap all day.

essential oils like bergamot, eucalyptus, peppermint, etc are great.
