I have found that I have low stomach acidity and have been taking betaine hcl/super enzymes for about a month now however I never get that burning sensation or proper digestion. My digestion just seems to be less bad the more I take.
This is even when taking 18,400mg of betaine hcl in one meal, the meal had a lot of protein but yes that is a stupid amount of betaine. This would be very awkward and expensive to continue.
I was thinking massively cutting protein and instead taking vitamins and minerals that help with production of stomach acid with fruit juice. That way the minerals for producing stomach acid will build up over time (instead of getting immediately used on the current meal) and hopefully will help restore normal gastric function.
The vitamins/minerals in question are all the vitamin B complex, iodine(12.5mg), zinc and sea salt. Any more?
The question is will these minerals be absorbed in supplement form when taken with fruit juice. I know b vitamins need a highly acid stomach to be absorbed but is this only the case when they are attached to proteins? Could taking them in supplement form bypass this?
Any help at all would be appreciated.
Try drinking kombucha tea. I was taking betaine hcl to help with my stomach acid and once I started drinking the tea I don't need the stomach acid help anymore. I'm sure it's because the kombucha tea is fermented, so probably eating or drinking more fermented foods will help also.
Stomach acid is hydrochloric acid, HCl. The Cl is chlorine. The production of stomach acid is one of the reasons we need some salt (or other chlorine source) in our diet. If you are restricting salt (NaCl), you may not be getting enough chlorine. Another source for chlorine is potassium chloride (KCl) found in salt substitues like NuSalt or AlsoSalt.
Not a doctor - just recalling stuff I've read.
