I'm traveling from Berlin to Dresden to Prague to Nuremburg to Frankfurt in a few weeks and I'm wondering if anyone has some recommendations on paleo friendly cafes, restaurants, etc. Or, if you have any suggestions on German fare that suits our intake, I'll take recommendations for that as well!

I second that. Anywhere in Germany you can find good Paleo food. Prague too - it is a meat country. A vegetarian would probably have a harder time in Prague than any Paleo person. – VB May 30 at 16:47

I'm in deepest, darkest Bavaria. Other than breading and the dreaded "saettigungsbeilage" (satiation side dish - usually potato or spaetzle) you'll be fine. Gluten free = gluteinfrei. Lactose free = lactosefrei (leberwurst in the gold wrapper is usually both). Butchers offer "fast food". Weekly markets are a main source of food. Source country must be published on grocery store items, if that's a concern. Bio or Oko = organic. If a food item has a package with no ingredients listed, it must by law contain only the title item - almonds, yogurt, whatever. Innards are common menu items. Enjoy! – LaurenM May 30 at 23:06

I just traveled to Germany.

Very meat friendly.

Sausages/Bratwurst/Beef Hot Dogs - Not completely optimal (not sure about what's ACTUALLY in there, but in a pinch, ditch the bun, add some fresh vegetables or fruits).

Tafelspitz- Boiled beef with apple horseradish, chive butter/cream/sour cream dip, and creamed spinach. And some potato.

Weinerschnitzel- Breaded veal with potato. You could ask no breading. Or just skip it. But it's far better than bread still.

Sirloin, rump steaks, beef goulash- Yeah.

Schweinsbraten- Roast pork with bread pudding and veggies. Avoid bread pudding if super gluten intolerant.

I've heard only good things about the Sauvage in Berlin, I think it's the world's first paleo restaurant

	Sauvage was great. Honestly, the best part of the meal was the rose/grape lemonade! Of course, we did walk a bajillion miles that day and had been out of water for a while by the time we reached the restaurant, so sewage water may have even tasted great. I haven't been since I was a kid, but I doubt it will be tough to eat well over there. Have sauerkraut, rouladen (my mother and I always make this for Christmas dinner- there are different varieties, but it's a slice of beef rolled up with different fillings, then seared and slow-baked), potatoes, wild game (you ought to be able to get some boar, venison, etc.) Just watch out for the gravies if you're sensitive to gluten, and the noodles, breads, & pastries, and you should be golden!

In Frankfurt you can find on the Zeil (the main center street) one mongolian barbecue at the top floor of the My Zeil Galerie, and always on the Zeil a place called Meat Us where you can have good hamburger choosing all the side ingredients. Also different sushi places are in the same area.
