Crackling -if you render your own tallow or lard, save the leftovers and sprinkle them with salt (or NoSalt) and cinnamon for a tasty snack
Choco-lard - heat 100% cacao chocolate, butter, coconut oil, and tallow/lard in a pan, cool, break into chunks - store in the freezer for chocolate consistency, in the fridge for fudge consistency. Can be sweetened with Stevia or honey if you like, but my sweet tooth is long gone.
Powerballs - same as above, only mix in crushed nuts and roll into ping-pong sized balls before storing in the fridge
I think that high purity dark chocolate is a good snack, since it is high in fat. Of course, the lower the purity of the dark chocolate the more sugar is probably added. I've been gradually working my way up from 85%, to 86%, and then 88% recently by trying different brands like Lindt's and Ghiradelli. Now, the pure 100% dark chocolate is probably the most optimal you can get in bar format, but if you are not use to it the taste, it is quite bitter with a woody flavor.
You can look online for things like cacao nibblets, which are small bits of raw cacao. Those are probably the closest to the natural form you can get. I'm sure the Mayans and Aztecs ate a lot of the stuff.
Also, nowadays, when traveling, I would rather just fast and endure some discomfort then eat the sh*t on airplanes or the stuff available at gas stations.
My kids love coconut popsicles... blend coconut milk w/a little banana and freeze in popsicle mold. You can adjust the amount of banana based on your own preference for sweetness/carbs. Even SAD consuming play date friends who reject other snacks such as strained full fat yogurt as having "no flavor" (ei: no sugar...) like these pops!
For a savory snack: cut celery in bite sized pieces, fill with cream cheese and top with smoked fish and chives. I served these as an appetizer for a brunch I hosted over the weekend - they were demolished and no one missed the crackers!
dude, learn to live without delicacies. if nuts trigger binges for you, avoid the chocolate. nuts and chocolate are delicacies to me because i like having special occasion foods (cheating the paleo way with a cup of nuts after a huge success). go with hardboiled eggs with some salt. it fills me right up.
Straight up spoonful of virgin organic coconut oil if you're looking to stop a craving of anything in it's tracks.
If you're actually looking to snack, home-made deer jerky is a winner hands-down.
