How come, since going paleo 4 weeks ago, I've never felt so good? I think clearly, I'm more alert/aware, I'm bouncing off the walls with energy, I'm more motivated, my house is cleaner, my sex drive is through the roof, my body fat is dripping off me...everything is better!!! Does anyone else feel this way? How come when I tell non-paleos this, they laugh at me? Think I'm nuts?

aaaaand thanks for getting Aretha's 'Natural Woman' stuck in my head for the day :) – Ruth May 31 at 12:33
Come clean my house next, please. My energy levels are up, but I still have a hard time wasting it on housework! – MathGirl72 May 31 at 13:19
What do you eat in a typical day? – HuntingBears May 31 at 13:42
I call it Paleo Zen. When you are really locked in on the diet avoid sugars and grains, an amazing calmness and clarity of mind takes over. I think that this is why the diet works for me. Once you feel this good you want the feeling all the time. When people think your nuts they are still on the outside wondering how you can give up cake, pizza, bread ect... You get to a point where you realize yeah that tastes good but I will no longer be in Paleo Zen. – Beckman May 31 at 14:35
@HuntingBears, a typical day for me: Breakfast: Usually left over dinner Lunch: Salad with every and any raw veggie I can jam on to it with some sort of protein (grilled meat, canned tuna/salmon) Dinner: I grill as often as possible, but if the weather is too bad, I cook recipes out of Well Fed from theclothesmakethegirl.com. I tend to eat a lot of asparagus because it is my fave veggie of all time and sweet taters once a day because they are my second fave. I don't have any snacks listed, because since going paleo, I find that I am not hungry as often as when I ate the SAD. – Divrgurl13 May 31 at 21:25

Welcome to eating well and taking care of yourself! It's a glorious thing, isn't it? It only gets better from here.

When people laugh at you, which they shouldn't but it shows how narrow thinking folks can be, just continue on smiling and enjoying yourself. As I am Ninja style, I don't use the Paleo moniker, I simply say when asked something along the lines of "it's amazing what happens when you sleep, eat real whole foods, and move about your life in happiness - isn't it?"

Cheers and may the force be with you :)

Amazing, isn't it? You are not nuts! If you were nuts, then this website wouldn't exist! This what going Paleo does!

I think the fat loss is the biggest benefit in the beginning. Burning fat unlocks energy, makes you look better, makes you feel better, gives you positive reinforcement for what you're doing, fixes hormones, etc.

I think there are lots of other benefits to paleo (i.e., reduced risk for disease) that are (at least for those of us that are generally "healthy") harder to see short-term and maybe even harder to pinpoint/prove long-term, but I definitely believe they are there too.

Fat loss gets many to board the paleo/primal train, and long-term health/longevity hopefully keeps us from getting off at the next stop. Keep it up!

Good stuff, huh? Feeling good is absolutely worth the relinquishing of particularly snacky junk foods. I do have to warn you though: proceed with caution, in that you don't become a super evangelist to whom the general public directs excessive distaste.

Alright, I'm done adding a bit of rain to your parade, so KEEP GOING AND ENJOY!

I only preach the values of Paleo if people inquire into it. If people simply ask how I've lost weight, I usually reply that I eat whole, local foods and have increased my activity level. I don't want to become 'that chick that brags about her diet'! I also find it just isn't worth explaining about paleo or arguing with people about it. – Divrgurl13 May 31 at 21:28

I also can't believe that for the last two weeks, my anxiety and depression (which I have always managed myself w/o medicine) have completely left the building!
