I created a poll on EasyPolls.net to find out how much sodium my paleo peeps consume each day.

Please take 1 second to respond.

I'm very interested in the results.

Thanks,

Mike

For reference, 1/4 tsp of morton's salt is 590mg (25% daily value). 100% would therefore be 2.4 grams, or 1 tsp.

To the person who answered more than 8g / day: have you turned into a pillar of salt yet? How in the world do you consume that much? – CaveMan_Mike May 31 at 18:15
How many grams in a quarter turn of a grinder? – Ebice May 31 at 19:18
probably 1/16th of a 1/4 tsp (not very much). For reference, 1/4 tsp of morton's salt is 590mg (25% daily value). 100% would therefore be 2.4 grams, or 1 tsp. – CaveMan_Mike May 31 at 22:57

I wish I could respond, but I honestly don't keep track. I do know that I consume less than I did when I ate processed crap.

same answer for me. – Mike T May 31 at 17:35
Same here too. I season as I like for flavor at the table, but never measure. – Karen May 31 at 22:14

Yeah, I definitely don't keep track or measure out every bit I use. But I'm not shy to sprinkle it on my cooked food (primarily dinner.) I'm going to guess between 1-3g any given day. Higher on days I sweat a lot, lower on non-activity days.

I was really surprised when I actually measured it. I love salt, and shake some on every bite of food. I ASSUMED I was consuming a TON of sodium. In actuality, it's really difficult to shake more than 1 gram of sodium onto food (even if you shake some on every bite). 97% of my food is self prepared at home, without adding sodium. Therefore, I'm getting less than 1 gram of sodium. I may have to start adding some while cooking. (I seem not to taste it much when dissolved in cooking vs. shaken on in crystal form) – CaveMan_Mike May 31 at 18:14

The palate is the commander. I simply by marine salt, and only add in preparation of foods, never felt the nedd to add to already cooked foods.

I start my day with 1/4-1/2 tsp of himaylayian pink sea salt, mixed with water. I sprinkle it on all my food. I'd say I get at least 1500-2500 mg of sodium.
