I've just noticed Denise Minger's diet (which she states is just her personal take for her) http://rawfoodsos.com/2010/01/20/my-current-diet/ and I'm interested if anyone here eats or ate like this with mostly raw mixed fruit/veg/meat/fish/eggs.

Note: I'm aware of the advantages of cooking for nutrient availability (certain nutrients), food safety issues and neutralization of goitrogens. So I don't mind if you mention those issues, but don't want to spend much time on it. I'd be more interested in how you deal with those issues. For instance, do you choose to cook certain foods, but not most? Do you avoid certain foods?

I'm also more interested in personal experiences. Did or does it work for you? What percentage raw? What foods do you eat? Raw or cooked or very lightly cooked?

I cook everything except fruits and my daily carrot salad. The less energy my digestion requires the more can be spend on other things and I believe people decline mentally when eating (almost) everything raw. But that's just me.

I thought i was only one who thought that. I went to a raw food pot luck a few yearS ago. noone ate anything & if they werent fasting they were sick. Defeats the point of going to a pot luck – Acumen Athletics Jun 1 at 13:38

This is an area where I think you need to find out for yourself whether raw or cooked is better for your body.

As for me, probably 70% of my diet is composed of raw fruits, vegetables & seeds + healthy fats. The rest is fish, eggs, meats (all cooked), fermented vegs, & cooked roots (yams, potatoes, beets, turnips). I drink one or two green smoothies a day. I probably eat a lot more carbs than many paleo people (100-150 g. per day). I really don't get caught up counting calories or carbs but try to eat for optimal health for my body.

ETA: Also, I have no problems with cooking my vegetables either, but I usually eat them raw.

certainly there are benefits in eating some foods raw(some veggies, all fruit, some meat here and there, or semi-cooked), but i believe that are much more pro's from eating cooked stuff.

See "Did cooking make us human" by BCC. AMAZING The first frame is from bacon frying in a beautiful iron cast skillet. ! :D just for the tease!

i cook all my root veggies but everything else is raw, including meat. my diet is mostly cooked carrots, with tons of fresh lettuce and herbs, raw meats and organs and egg yolks...also copious amounts of spices and seaweeds. not cooking meat has done wonders for my digestion. i dont cook my veggies to death but it does help to break down the fibers and make them easier to digest as well. if you are interested there is a website for raw meat eaters....rawpaleodiet.com?

It does on some, not on others. So net effect would undoubtedly vary depending on the contents of the diet. For instance, availability of carotenes (plant precursors of vitamin A) is increase by cooking. The availability of ormed vitamin A in animal sources - egg yolks, butter etc is not improved by cooking. In general water soluble vitamins like C (especially) and the Bs are not improved by cooking. – Karen Jun 1 at 17:19

I eat 100% animal products. along with raw coconut oil and the occasional spice. I drink bone broth (cooked) daily, but other then that I meat my meat, fish, bone marrow, organs...etc raw. I do lightly cook my fish skin and occasionally eat some boiled or sautéed meat too. I would say I eat 90% raw. I eat no veggies or fruit right now. I feel amazing, so much energy! don't forget to eat your organs and glands as well :)

raw meat is delicious on its own, but tasty topped with raw egg yolks, salt and pepper, or perhaps a little butter and lemon add to this some celery, cucumber, maybe a few leaves of lettuce to wrap it up you can mix up ground raw meats, including ground turkey, like an unbaked meat loaf and enjoy it that way, with a little onion and some spices raw organs like liver are amazing on their own, i like liver slightly frozen because the texture is like a fudgesicle, although it tastes very minerally raw brain is delicious fresh and raw...its like a dense cream. fish is easy raw, you can wrap – jessica Dec 27 at 2:32
it in nori softened with egg yolks along side some avocado, cream cheese and cucumber – jessica Dec 27 at 2:32
