So I've been doing the paleo thing for about a year now, for general health. Its been great for just about everything, but I have a problem coming up. I'm going to need to work 2 shifts each week that require me to wake at 330 am. I generally go to sleep around 2, which works perfectly for the rest of my work/life that generally doesn't start before noon. I was wondering what the best way to arrange my sleep around these shifts would be. Any info about supplements, meal times, and sleep scheduling will help. If you need anymore info, just ask.

Honestly I would try to find another job. I think that kind of constant back-and-forth is extremely hard on the body. I know this may not be an option for you, but ugh. You have my sympathies, but I have no useful information for you. – tdgor Jun 1 2012 at 16:41

The only thing I can think of is waking/sleeping earlier during the rest of the week. If you could get in the habit of sleeping at 1130 PM, for example, you'd get 4 hours of sleep on the early shifts. Other than that, big swings in sleeping patterns aren't "natural" and it may take something more than natural means to cope, i.e., caffeine. (This is coming from a former long-haul trucker, so take it for what it's worth.)

i did a year and a half of rotating shifts that ruined me. try to eat at the same time each day and nap when you can.
