Can you lose weight if you eat late at night? I always eat good portions during the day but then I have a relatively good sized dinner and then kind of a second dinner around 9:30 b/c I'm so hungry.

Will I lose weight, and how can I stop eating so much that late? (I'm not eating breads, dairy, etc).

It could be habit, but I really feel hungry. I'm 5'2, 140 pound female, working out 2-3 times a week. Do I have any chance of losing weight?

Lara, welcome to PaleoHacks. There's one thing I should let you know about how things work around here: we poo-poo on conventional wisdom. So you know those thoughts you're having about how eating late at night will automatically lead to fat storage? It's not true.
Your body has no idea what time it is. It'll digest food normally at say, midnight, the same way it does at 8 a.m., noon, and 6 p.m. The same principles apply here: don't go overboard in eating and get some physical activity in throughout the day. If you're really truly hungry, then eat. I suggest keeping track of your calories.

Are you eating because you're hungry or because you're bored, being that it's so late at night?

Thirst can also disguise itself as hungry, it happens to me at least twice a week.

Truth.

I really think I'm hungry! It could be habit but I really feel hungry. I drink a lot of water during the day, maybe I'll drink more. For example, today I ate... scrabbled eggs, 1/2 avocado, chicken and salad, then for the snack, a lot of ground beef with tomato sauce, salad, apple. That's a lot right? I'm female 140 pounds 5'2. Do I have any chance of losing weight? – Lara Jun 2 at 3:06
I stop drinking water maybe 3 hours before bed because I have the bladder of an 8yr old girl otherwise, so keep on drinking. is everything you ate in one go, wht was yoru breakfast, lunch and dinner? you have a great chance of losing weight, if that's your ultimate goal...have you ever counted your calories for the day/ week to get an idea of where you're at? – TruthinessInc Jun 2 at 3:10
I'm going to try counting calories. I have a feeling I consume more than I should? – Lara Jun 2 at 4:02
Yesterday for breakfast I had two eggs, snack-avocado and 2 small almond crackers I made, dinner- chicken and salad (probably a bigger portion) and then for my late night (10pm) snack I had ground beef with tomato sauce, a salad and an apple. :( Kind of embarrassing! – Lara Jun 2 at 15:14
When you begin eating paleo, you do not simply cut out a bunch of stuff, you MUST add foods too. I eat way more real food than I used to and have lost do much weight! You shouldn't be skipping lunch! This diet is NOT about deprivation! It's fun! Eat! I became ravenous when I first cut out carbs. Carbs are so much like a "filler". Without them you need real food – Mia Aug 10 at 0:12

If you want to avoid feeling hungry later in the evening, you need to pay attention to what you eat and NOT the calories (!)

Dinner should be VLC - it's CHO that makes you hungry. Timing dinner could also be helpful - about 4hrs before the time you calculate you would actually be drifting off I would suggest.

Last word - don't get hunger-phobic - my personal experience is that I sleep best when I go to bed feeling a little hungry.

Dinner is always VLC, but I am going to try eating later meals perhaps. I think I am hunger phobic. For many years I would have trouble sleeping when my belly wasn't stuffed. It's one thing I need to work on now. Thanks for the post. – Lara Jun 2 at 15:11
