I usualy have a few drinks on friday nights after a long work week. Last night I had a few Ceasers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesar_(cocktail). Similar to a bloody mary and very popular here in Canada. Anyway, I recently started a continuous kombucha brew and last night I added a couple of ounces of it into my drink. It didn't really change the taste much and I may start adding it evertime. Does anyone else add fermented beverages,(kombucha, kefir, kvass) with alcohol? Do you think it may be beneficial while drinking alcohol seeing as it's already slightly alcoholic?

just read my own link for the Ceaser on wiki. The last line of the article references bacon infused vodka. Just found that interesting and my have to try that now. – missionman Jun 3 2012 at 2:12

Thanks for the judgmental comment @VB, but that was not what I was asking. Many here enjoy alcoholic beverages even though not considered paleo. I would argue that a ceaser with or withought vodka would be one of the more paleo friendly drinks. – missionman Jun 3 2012 at 2:37

@VB Just felt I need to chime in that your post is completely non helpful and slightly rude. If I wasn't on a Paleo forum I would have taken you for a Vegan. Is it just me or as time goes on more and more judgmental and "elitest" rhetoric is popping up in these forums. Sorry for the rant, might have had one too many tasty blueberry kombucha's and vodka's. Thanks for the great idea missionman! – jenna Jun 3 2012 at 3:24

@missionman - to answer your question, vodka is not Paleo (made out of grains). There is nothing that you can add to it that will make it more beneficial. The alcohol content of kefir is no more than 0.5%. Kvass should not be more than 3%. Not sure about kombucha. If you want add them just for taste - go ahead. Adding them to vodka won't counteract the negative impact because ethanol is a toxin. Red wine, when it is consumed in moderation, has shown some benefits, just as much as grape juice (as far as I know). If you want to drink Ceasers - go ahead and drink them - nobody has the right to – VB Jun 3 2012 at 6:10

Not all vodka is made from grains. Some is also made from milk sugar. The best stuff is made from potatoes. – Kelly Jul 24 at 21:05

I dont' add alcohol but I add some carbonated mineral water to dilute my kombucha, which is way too strong. I used to drink kombucha straight but it tastes so much better whem mixed with some fizz.

Alternative option: kombucha beer, made in Ypsilanti, MI where I work.

Some vodkas are grain-free/gluten-free (Ciroc is made from grapes). Some Tequila is ok, too. Vodka/Tequila/red wine.

This is purely anecdotal but when I was visiting my sister once she made a cocktail with some of my kombucha thinking it was some other mixer and said it was the first time in a long time she hadn't had a hangover from drinking.
