Okay this problem has really gotten to me. So I drink water pretty regularly throughout the whole day after I break a fast (I am not really thirsty during IF) and stay hydrated during activities too. But then, when dinner rolls around I am never thirsty during the meal. But, then afterwards at about 9 pm (an hour before bed) I get so thirsty and dehydrated my mouth feels like sandpaper. It is unbearable so I have to drink a little water. Problem is I have been waking up every night having to go to the bathroom and it is disrupting my sleep (can't get back to bed). So what should I do to fix this?

EDIT: Per your suggestions, I added some sea salt to my salads and am making sure I am not drinking too close to bed and during dinner. Still finding myself extremely thirsty towards bedtime even though I drink sooo much water during the day and I still have to wake up to go to the bathroom. ANy other suggestions?

Have you tried forcing yourself to consume a glass of water during your meal? Drinking water during your IF may also help even out your hydration. It seems as though your body is demanding fluids because you are not taking in enough the rest of the day.

Yes it doesn't help. I also upped my salt since it seemed low and still I am dying of thirst, but know I will wake up to pee tonight because I drank so much at dinner. – YoungPaleoLover Jun 5 at 2:48

How much salt do you eat? Could be a water retention issue if your sodium intake is too low.

Oh Interesting. I don't eat much. Should I eat sea salt? – YoungPaleoLover Jun 4 at 19:31
Depends on what kind of protocol you follow. I know many here like sea salt. I personally use Canning and Pickling salt because it's iron free and I'm cautious of the heavy metals content in sea salt. There are some posts on here about that as well. – j3wcy Jun 4 at 20:01

This is a tough problem. I don't eat any protein or carbs until dinner everyday. My only other intake is Bulletproof coffee in the morning. I also live in the Phoenix AZ area which is in the middle of the Sonoran desert. So, hydration is a big deal here.

After dinner I get very thirsty and if I drink too much I'll have to get up in the middle of the night to urinate. Drink too little and I'll wake up so dehydrated my tongue is stuck to the roof of my mouth.

Best solution I've found is to eat at the same time and the same macro ratio everynight. I also eat a lot of salt and supplement potassium in my dinner, about 700 mg plus whatever I get from potato or veggies. Then about an hour after dinner I pound a few glasses of water. The latest I drink is about 8:30 and I go to bed around 10. Urinate before bed and most night I make it through the night without having to get up to go or drink.

Its a balancing act.

Good luck.
