I eat an avocado a day and usually make it the last thing I eat in a meal. But, I find that after I finish eating it, the smooth texture brings on cravings to eat more and I want to eat another one. I don't, but regardless the cravings are bothersome. Sometimes I eat sweet potato after because I think my body is asking for carbs. Anyways can avocado induce these hunger triggers? I love my avos what should I do?

If you eat it first, do you experience the same cravings? – MathGirl72 Jun 4 at 17:53
I don't know I would have to try that. And Dave what do you mean? – YoungPaleoLover Jun 4 at 21:49

If I'm somewhat "burned out" on my meat-heavy diet, I find myself eating considerably more vegetables, including avocados (but usually broccoli of all things). I wouldn't say that it's expressly carbs you are craving, insomuch as it's carbs in the presence of fat.

Or, baring that "instinctivo" explanation, maybe your love of avocados is spurring on a binge tendency. Everyone has a trigger food, mine happens to be white potatoes, a comfort food from my childhood - yours might be avocados.

I would imagine that there are some leptin issues going on. Carbs boost leptin. If you are restricting calories and then going into a meal hungry or after not having eaten in a while, then you're naturally going to want to load up on calorie dense foods. Avocados are very calorie dense, with most of the calories coming from fat. If you were to eat some starch before the meal began, you would feel more satiated by the time you finish your protein and vegetable, and probably stop there having consumed fewer calories by the end of the meal.

Maybe I am an anomoly, but fat does not satiate me one bit. I'm sure if I wanted to I could eat a jar of coconut oil or almond butter, which is probably like 1000+ calories. I could not ever eat that much rice or potatoes without making it a mission to do so.
