Sometime in August I plan on getting a breast augmentation, which is around 2 months, but before then my doctor recommends I lose between 5-10 Kgs. Currently I am 5'6" and 165 pounds. I heard about the paleo through a friend, and have been reading up on it and seems really promising. So was hoping on some insight of whether I will have luck losing the weight I need to lose. I am planning to jog/run 5-6 days a week as well. How much do you guys think I will lose in 2 months?

Also...can I have black coffee on paleo? I know I can't have sugar substitute, but how about a natural sweetener like honey? Or what do you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance :)

I lost six pounds the first week but I didn't do it to lose weight. I think to really appreciate Paleo you should do it to be healthy and not just as a quick-fix weight loss plan. – latergator Jun 4 2012 at 21:34
I definitely don't plan on using Paleo as a quick-fix, I've been looking for a healthier way to lose weight for quite some time, my surgery is just a push because I will lose a lot of money if I don't lose the weight. I've tried to start Paleo twice before but I give into temptation really easily. I understand that Paleo is a lifestyle and I plan on dedicating myself to it, not just for weight loss. Thanks for commenting. – Khloe Jun 5 2012 at 3:41

Having blobs of synthetic tissue surgically inserted into your body is not Paleo.

How do you know she isn't getting a reduction? – Courtney Jun 5 2012 at 0:16

Augmentation means: make bigger. – coffeeandcream Jun 5 2012 at 1:02
Thank you for your insight. – Khloe Jun 5 2012 at 3:38
Shaming you, unfortunately, seems to be Paleo. – TruthinessInc Mar 7 at 2:54

Honestly, there's no way anyone can answer this for you. Some people are really strict, do everything "right", and don't lose an ounce. Other people lose a few pounds. Still others drop 20. It's individual and there are a ton of factors at play including your diet, amount of and type of exercise (jogging 5-6 days per week might not be advisable, by the way), metabolism, genetics, etc.

If you like black coffee, go for it. Some people are for honey, some people say to stay away. The more I'm into paleo, the more I realize that it's all about what works best for the individual. Experiment and see :)

Yeah I was one of the ones to not lose, but put on, even though I was strict and working out 5 days a week...it just depends on your natural set point of weight and how your body reacts to the change in diet. If you eat to support your activity levels, but ensure a calorie deficit of 500 cals a day, you should be able to lose 1-2lbs a day. The calorie deficit will ensure a weightloss more than just paleo alone. – mzrdnan Jun 4 2012 at 20:19
I think you meant 1-2 lbs per WEEK, mzrdnan! – Dragonfly Jun 4 2012 at 20:25
thank you for your responses! I'm really scared now though :/ – Khloe Jun 4 2012 at 20:34

Losing weight and losing body fat are two different things, Body fat takes a while. All the diet claimns of losing 20 lbs in two weeks is not from body fat - mostly cleaning out the intestents, some water and a less full belly. Cut out a lot of carbs, wheat and sugars until then and it will be a good thing...and between you and me- doctors no squat about food and diets.

good luck

@Aleen, why do you think the exercise in not advisable?

I think it might be too much cardio. Check out this article at Mark's Daily Apple: marksdailyapple.com/chronic-cardio/#axzz1wrZHp9hZ – Aleen Jun 4 2012 at 21:43
Thanks for the reference! I will read it!! :) – Khloe Jun 5 2012 at 3:43

If you eat a low-carb, high-fat diet, you are likely to lose fat, paleo or not. How much, no one can say for certain, but perhaps more than calories-in-calories-out would suggest. Check out the documentary "Fat Head." http://amzn.to/M6pLZ8

Thank you everyone for your responses I really appreciate all the answers I have gotten and I will take all of them into consideration.

Disclaimer: 1. Whether the surgery is not Paleo or not, it's my body, and do not care to read your opinion on that matter. 2. I am NOT using Paleo as a "Quick-Fix". I'm starting a blog to track my progress, the months before, during, after my surgery and the years beyond that. I want to do Paleo because of all the amazing articles I've read on it and I hope to transform and cleanse my body. And quite frankly after reading up on it, I'm actually scared out of eating carbs! Lol. Also, if you read my current stats, I am grossly overweight, I need a lifestyle change regardless of my surgery or not.

Have a great day :) <3

165 pounds at 5'6 is "grossly" overweight? – Lily_7 Jun 5 2012 at 5:12

Khloe, I'd really encourage you to take a look at what your definition of "grossly" overweight is. While you may not have the body composition you would like to have, 5'6" and 165 pounds is barely considered overweight (according to conventional medicine, which isn't overly popular around here...but still). I'd really encourage you to lift heavy things, if you don't already, and build some muscle. I'd encourage you to eat paleo foods, low carb if you're so inclined, and see how your body comp changes. Then think about losing weight. You might find that you don't really need to. – Aleen Jun 5 2012 at 5:19
I don't mean to be rude but, I never said I was OBESE, I said I was OVERWEIGHT, and very unhealthy, my cardio is terrible, my heart rate is too high for my age/weight/etc. I am grossly overweight, although I have seen some 165#/5'6" girls who look fine, but not every body type is the same and I am wayyy past "barely considered overweight". – Khloe Jun 6 2012 at 16:34
