I have been eating at least 0.5 lb of meat from various sources (fish, poultry, beef, pork, organs, etc.) everyday for the last 10 months. Now I can't stand the smell or even the thought of eating meat. I can only stomach cooked vegetables and green smoothies now. I don't know if it's related but I have been experiencing trouble sleeping and headaches on recurring basis since last week. What's going on? By the way, I am not pregnant.

EDIT: I think I am going to stay away from meat for a few weeks now until I feel better about meat. I can't even stomach eggs or bone broth now.

You might have exhausted your ability to handle the stress of what I presume is a low-carb diet. – Kasra Jun 7 at 1:10

^I am going to add more tubers and see how I feel. Thanks! – coffeesnob Jun 7 at 2:08
Are you pregnant? ;) – gilliebean Jun 7 at 2:45
^It sure sounds like I am pregnant... But I am not! – coffeesnob Jun 7 at 2:53

I don't have the answer but could you adapt me, please? I will eat all your meat. Okay, it was a joke :) On a more serious note - have you tried digestive enzymes? I highly recommend Digest or Digest Gold by Enzymedica - one before meal. Also - is your meat grass-fed or regular store-bought? That will make a huge difference. – VB Jun 7 at 2:57

First: What have your macronutrient ratios been like? How low carb have you been eating?

When you say you've been eating "at least" a half-pound of meat every day, that suggests to me you often eat significantly more. I'm a pretty happy carnivore, but most days I don't eat near that much meat, and there are a lot of days when I eat eggs, but no meat at all. So maybe it's just time for a break from so much meat?

Second: It might not be diet that's triggering your headaches and sleeplessness, and your sudden aversion to meat may be in response to feeling unwell, rather than strictly a diet problem.

Is there anything else going on in your home or work environment? Any possible stressors that weren't present before? Anything that's changed that doesn't seem like a stressor--but could be? Stuff I'm thinking of includes different/harsher lighting, a paint job or new carpet, etc.

[ETA: Also consider anything that might be a new source of muscle tension in the neck and shoulders (leading to headaches and difficulty getting to sleep). A new chair at work? Sitting in a different position? Driving a different car, where the seat isn't quite adjusted right for you? That sort of thing.

And last, but not least--reaction to a previously-unknown allergen. My eyes have felt like someone poured sand in them for the last three weeks, and it took me almost that long to realize it's the cottonwoods at my volunteer gig that are doing it. I haven't had any sinus/respiratory trouble, so at first I thought I might have some kind of infection in my eyes, but no--it's the cottonwoods. And they've made me feel a little headache-y, too. So there's another one to consider, especially since it's springtime and your headaches are sudden-onset.]

Sorry I can't be more help, but these are the first things that come to my mind.

I don't really calculate my macrnutrient ratios but I've been eating predominantly more fat/protein than carb. I must say I've been eating anywhere from 30g-75g of carbs a day. But I was feeling fine up until now... – coffeesnob Jun 7 at 1:54
I must agree with your second point. I generally feel unwell right now. I can't think of any new stressors except it got a lot warmer... Thanks! – coffeesnob Jun 7 at 1:56
Another thing: 0.5lb of meat is TOO much? I sometimes eat 1.5lb of meat per day and I am 5 ft at 110lb! – coffeesnob Jun 7 at 2:00
LOL--maybe not too much for you! For me it's a lot. Definitely a YMMV thing. – More Butter Please Jun 7 at 2:16
Whenever I feel a little under the weather I always feel like eating carbs. I often panic and wonder why I am eating carbs, but once I get over the illness I realize it was just a reaction to feeling unwell, the body needed the carbs so I ate them. I think .5lb of meat is not too much considering .5lb is only 250 grams. – Joy Jun 7 at 2:34
