She is thin and seems healthy, but her periods have been irregular for years.

She eats a lot of carbs and junk food.

Doctor told her to ditch white rice and breads for brown and WW bread and do South Beach phase 2.

I am encouraging her to try to dump all grains and see how she feels.

I welcome any practical advice if my story speaks to you.

Thanks!

Was it really necessary to qualify her as Chinese? – Kasra Jun 8 at 0:33
Maybe not necessary but helpful. Culture is an important factor in diet and perception to certain foods. Rice tolerance and asian genetics is also an interesting factor. Hope this helps with your issues Kasra. – PaleoMouth Jun 10 at 6:14

Low carb Paleo will be helpful. Also have her get her Vitamin D level checked & sun/supplement to 50-60 ng/ml.

Magnesium, A & K also need to be sufficient for D to work properly (D is a hormone precursor & essential to fertility/hormonal balance.) Sufficient Zinc is also needed.

Her gut health will affect nutrient absorption, so make sure she gets sufficient fermented foods and/or probiotics.

I had PCOS, diagnosed when I was 20.

Fast forward a few years, went paleo.

Fast forward a few more years, got pregnant on the first try. Am now pregnant again with number two.

My PCOS is gone. Doctors think it might have been my diet, but since there's no data on paleo and PCOS, they won't say definitively. In any case, I have no symptoms whatsoever.

Go paleo and see how you feel! Give it a solid 5-6 months.

Yup, insulin resistance can cause PCOS. Low carb can help restore her fertility.

My sister has cured her pcos eating hight fat, low carb paleo with carb cycling. So occaisionally she has a refeeding period. She was always thin or Average so it took her a long time to consider it but she is doing great with it.

I was overweight for years (ahem, still am a bit....), my sister is obese and we both have PCOS.

My PCOS got worse and worse with me finally having no period for 15 months and the light hair covering my cheeks becoming thicker and thick until I had to was it once every 2 months.

I tried everything to lose weight, including army fitness programmes, the raw food diet etc. etc. etc.

Finally I found Paleo, and 2 weeks after starting, I had my first period in 15 months. The hair on my face has reduced to nearly nothing, my libido is up! and I've lost 3 inches off my waist alone in 6 weeks.

I know that the period thing could simply be coincidence, but things are definitely moving in the right direction with my bidy showing signs of ovulation etc. My sister is astounded at the weight I've lost, and my husband is just grateful he is no longer married to an egg with legs... ;)

I think I've probably got another 20lbs to lose, but for the first time I feel that it will happen and that I'm coming out the other side with PCOS.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope this helps :)

Tracy, How goes the pcos with the paleo? I've started 1 1/2 weeks ago and also have pcos. Is your cycle regular now? – Lulu Aug 17 at 0:23
