After reading Dr. William Davis' Wheat Belly, I started wondering whether the Cinnamon flavored Trident gum I have been chewing actually contains gluten. He made the comment that sometimes gluten is used in the powder to prevent gum from sticking to its wrapper, but he never said which brands.

Does anyone know if Trident or even Orbit gums are gluten-free?

Glee gums are pricer but gluten-free and cheap on Amazon. But when I want some gum that's what I buy.

I've had issues with orbits, not sure if it's gluten or sorbitol or what, but I noticed my body felt better when I stopped chewing it.

Yeah I know it's a bad habit that I need to kick but it helps with cravings and satiety. – Jessica Johnson Jun 9 at 22:17
I finally went cold turkey off Orbit Bubblemint and was amazed at how much better I felt without it, way less belly bloat. Was compelled to quit by a positive Celiac blood panel and wanted to remove any possible cross contamination. – DemingRN Jun 10 at 3:58
One more thing, most websites say that Orbit is gluten free but I am so paranoid now that I just can't go there. – DemingRN Jun 10 at 3:59
My hunch is that it's more due to cross-reactivity – Jeff Jun 10 at 4:17
I think the repetitive mechanical action of chewing gum would have a much more significant effect on your physiology than the trace amounts of its content that you actually consume. – Kasra Jun 10 at 16:25

Check the company websites.

There are plenty of gums out there that don't have a ton of wacky ingredients. (Unless you count xylitol or stevia, which some people would.)

Can't find these at Walgreens or a gas station, but they're at Whole Foods and most mom & pop health food stores. (Possibly even TJs, although I haven't looked for them there.) No aspartame or BHT! :-) (And I'm guessing no gluten because they're not wrapped in paper with that powder/corn starch anyway.)

Spry gum

Peelu cinnamon ---> but they have several different flavors

*The one drawback I've found to these gums is that they're delicious for about 10 seconds but then lose all flavor!

Don't be scared of the prices on the website...single packs are cheap at WF.
