I eat Beef Bone marrow about 3/4 times a week, on my rest days. I love it a lot, I've been eating it since I was a little boy. I LOVE eating it with ground beef. What my mom does is she makes ground beef on one side, boils bone marrow on the other. Then I heat the bones with ground beef. Then, spread it all over the food !

While I find it extremely tasty, my mom is still against my ''excessive'' bone marrow consumption. Also, how good is it for bone health ?

You tell us, since you've been eating it since boyhood. How has it affected your bones, if any? – Mambo Jun 11 at 2:06
I used to eat/drink dairy. Then I did the 30 day experiment and I learned that I don't tolerate milk and yogurt well. I don't like green leafy vegetables and I don't eat fish as often as I should. Which leads to the concern of not getting enough calcium. – Ali Jun 11 at 2:09
Ali, what are your sources for calcium? – MathGirl72 Jun 11 at 15:57
Eggs and egg shells. I recently discovered egg shells, well not discovered just started eating it. Tastes just like this calcium supplement I used to take 2 years ago. – Ali Jun 13 at 16:40

I eat it because it tastes great and has a phenomenal texture. What is your mother's concern about it?

I don't know about eating marrow for bone strength, but it is a great fat and calorie source.

I also don't know about how much it helps bone strength, but it is an excellent fat. I try to eat it as much as i can, which sadly is not all that often. But my husband takes me to Mozza for my favorite bone marrow meal on special occasions. One of these days I will learn to make my own. – PaleoDel Jun 13 at 3:27

There's an entry on the nutritional value of bone marrow here:

I don't eat it very often - usually only when I make homemade beef stock and have the marrow bones. (I haven't bought marrow bones for the sole purpose of roasting them to eat the marrow, but perhaps...)

Sometimes I just eat it with a spoon. It is so rich and luxurious. But it's delicious spread on a grain-free cracker, sprinkled with a tiny bit of salt.

Bone marrow OWNZ JOO!

No, seriously. I really, really love bone barrow. It's full of protein and fat, loads of minerals too.

I haven't read anything about it's value in bone strengthening.

How old are you?

Secondly, according to this site, bone marrow is high in iron, phosphorus and other minerals. I don't see how eating it is going to strengthen your bones. Eat leafy greens for your calcium.

Marrow is or can be high in vitamin K2, so that's a good mechanism for bone marrow strengthening bones. – Mscott Nov 17 at 20:44
Marrow is awesome. I ate that crap like crazy when I was pregnant. My son's face is much broader than my husband's or mine at the same age. I wasn't eating paleo or taking k2 at the time. Marrow is da bomb. – Aughra Nov 17 at 21:58
Ashley, that's incredible! (your son's face) – primalpat Nov 17 at 23:47

The benefits are enjoyment, as preceded by drooling and followed by satisfaction. Try roasting then adding salt, lemon and fresh parsley.
