I am moving to San Jose in a couple weeks. What are some good paleo/primal places to check out in the area? I am interested in restaurants, grocery stores, butchers, fish mongers, farmers' markets, CSAs, and places to work out, CrossFit or not.

I've seen the SJ egg and the Santa Clara restaurant threads.

I live in San Jose, we have Whole Foods Markets, great Farmers Markets, my favorite is the Campbell Farmers Market on Sundays, you can buy grass fed meat from Prather Ranch there (they sell here and in San Francisco), Farmhouse Culture raw sauerkraut, raw milk, the best tasting pasture raised eggs from Capay Organic stand (which has a CSA called Farm Fresh to You). Places I like to eat are Aqui (all organic, I order salads and more primal friendly dishes), Whole Foods (the one in Cupertino is huge), The Yardhouse in Santana Row (they will accomodate protien style for most dishes). The Counter in Santana Row makes salads to order. Wahoos tacos (lettuce wrapped tacos). There are several Crossfit places, although I do not do crossfit. There seems to be alot of people embracing the Paleo lifestyle here. Hope you like it here, we have great weather! Lots of hiking, mtn biking, etc.

Sorry, the Counter is the burger place, good burgers made to order. Plutos makes salads to order, you chose your ingredients. – Heather McCormack Jun 13 at 4:49

Not sure if you've checked already, but Eat Wild is a great resource for finding local farms/ranches:

Looks like you have a few good options within about an hours drive. Stock up that freezer!

One restaurant springs to mind.

I used to live in the Bay Area and wholeheartedly recommend Counter Burger for a sweet sweet customizable Paleo burger experience. Confirmed the beef is not grass-fed, just fyi, and they also offer turkey which I used to enjoy on occasion. Huge patties and a long menu of options. Sides include the usual fries, sweet potato fries and grilled vegetables brushed with olive oil. Their site has a menu, check it out.

The whole peninsula is stuffed with incredible places to eat, you're in for a treat. Emphasis on fresh ingredients, demanding clientele and cultural diversity means you're really spoiled for choice.

...quite unlike my situation now, living in New England. Sigh.

I live in san jose near San Jose State University in Downtown, I go to farmers markets, I have found some good ones where you can get grass fed meats and stuff. I been looking around I found a few places. My favorite is the Farmers Market in Cupertino on Friday (for raw dairy products/meat/fish, the one in Santa Cruz on Saturdays (they have www.leftcoastgrassfed.com) and also fish and pastured Eggs/whole chickens. The Farmers Market in Livermore on Thursdays @ 4 has Johansing Farms Beef. and a few more that i can't think of off the top of my head. But hey if you ever want to tag along you can come I don't mind. Would also like to get to know people who are following the diet cause I feel kind of alone doing this by myself.
