Dear PHers

After this post.

http://paleohacks.com/questions/123309/what-harmful-foods-drinks-are-you-still-refusing-to-give-up#axzz1xfPuUaRn

AND clear evidence that coffee messes me up, I have decided that I AM giving up coffee for good.

Does anyone have any suggestions for delicious tea?

I drink loads of herbal tea everyday but I'm thinking of something really rich and tasty that will help me start my day. I have tried bulletproof tea but I find that the butter drowns the flavour and you can't actually taste the tea.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Not sure how "Paleo" carob is, but here is a barley-free version of Teeccino. It is delicious and as close to coffee as possible. Also gluten-free. Only available online for now. Don't buy the one with barley. teeccino.com/product/950/… – VB Jun 13 at 10:59

teeccino.com/product/948/… I wanted to post this one, sorry. It is better. – VB Jun 13 at 11:00
Thanks VB. It looks great but can't find it in the UK. :-( Will ask my sister to get it as she lives in the States. – MrsD Jun 13 at 13:21

Try drinking a nice spicy chai tea blend. It should hold up better to the butter or IMO goes very well with coconut milk.

That's what i thought but I always seem to be choosing the wrong Chai blend. – MrsD Jun 13 at 13:24

mix 50% each roasted dandelion / roasted chicory - tastes just like coffee (swear) - but no caffeine. We make it up for customers all the time, lots of people come back for more, and send there friends for it too. We sell the two herbs separately on our website, or most herb shops sell them too. Just don't get the commercially packed dandelion coffee replacement - tastes like cereal - yukky

Thank you. I noticed you guys are in Australia. Do people sell roasted Dandelion that is not a coffee replacement? – MrsD Jun 13 at 13:29
I've googled it and answered my own question. Will go to the health food shop today and have a look and if that fails lot's of people online seem to be selling those two items. – MrsD Jun 13 at 13:33

I know it's not a tea, but I replaced coffee with cocoa powder.

That's an idea! I never thought of that! But then again the phytic acid in drinking chocolate everyday! – MrsD Jun 13 at 13:25

Japanese twig tea (Kukicha). You can find it at health food stores. Has a sharp, woodsy taste. I believe it a little caffeine, but not much.

In the winter I was drinking hot water with a spoon of cocoa powder (fair trade, unsweetened) and a little coconut oil.

I can't do caffeine at all either. It does very strange things to my body - darn adrenals! Anyway, I know this isn't "tea" but it technically could be. I bought some organic roasted chicory on amazon.com a few months ago and I've fallen in love with it. It's not exactly like coffee, but it's darn close and gives me that "comfort food" feeling that coffee used to bring me. Mind you, I can't do dairy either so I use almond or coconut milk to make it creamy (never liked sugar in my coffee, thankfully). It's delicious and a great alternative to coffee and something different than herbal teas.

Thanks. I've ordered some roasted chicory and roasted dandelion from eBay as suggested above! – MrsD Jun 13 at 15:49
That's great! I think you will enjoy it. Use caution - a little goes a long way. I use 3 tsp (1 tbs) of roasted chicory to one standard size french press coffee maker. Let me know how you like it! :) – Cheryl Jun 13 at 18:25
Thank you Cheryl. – MrsD Jun 14 at 16:42

I'm certain you can find rose hip tea on eBay or somewhere else. Especially being that you're so close to Europe. Very popular in the Czech Republic - sipekova caj is what it's called in Czech. – Cheryl Jun 13 at 18:26
