Seeing as many newbies come to paleo through this book, perhaps we could ennumerate its shortcomings for future reference?

The problems that "I" have with the original Cordain "Paleo Diet"

  1. His stance on Saturated Fats being bad, m'kay.
  2. The allowance of synthetic sweetened beverages like Diet Cola.
  3. His stance on nightshades, expressly tomatoes, chilies, and potatoes (these should be excluded for some, but frankly I don't buy restricting them for everyone.
  4. The outright ABUSES that I've seen of the 80/20 rule (i.e. a "cheat meal" where you build an igloo out of Eskimo pies and eat your way out) - not really his fault though.

I've heard he's made some revisions in his new books - The Paleo Diet (Revised) and The Paleo Answer. I've unfortunately not read these yet (they are on my kindle, I'm just too busy reading other stuff atm).

So, What ONE book on Paleo diet do you recommend at this time? Ive read a bunch online, but never the whole book. I was about to buy the Paleo Solution.... What do you recommend? – Crowlover Jun 15 at 17:12

I like Robb's book better. Since I've read most the books, I consider the target. For those that don't seem to have issues with dairy and are looking for something flashy and entertaining, I recommend The Primal Blueprint. For others that want to really "do" Paleo, I recommend Robb's book, Paleo Solution. My first intro to Paleo eating was through a book no longer in print, Neanderthin, which I still feel embodies much of the principles I still use, some 8 years after I read it (although my stances have changed on olive oil, nuts, and CAFO meats, which are "ok" in Neanderthin). – Joshua Jun 15 at 17:32
Rhanks Joshua. I don't care about flashy or entertaining but... I am not (don't need to) going to totally give up dairy. I think I finally figured out that Primal is Paleo plus Dairy - is that correct? – Crowlover Jun 15 at 17:39

Much of his anti-nutrient argument is mainly just nonsense when he gets into specifics with phytic acid, lectins, etc...

Say more, I was not really buying it, but don't have the science background to know why. – Kitzu Jun 16 at 1:31
