What is everyone's personality like on here? Is the Paleo lifestyle for everyone?

I'm a compulsively organized person and find it really helps me with my meal and food planning.

Are the majority of people on here Type A?

If you aren't an organized person, how well do you fare with paleo?

Paleo is for everyone , except people who are too stupid and should die before procreating and passing the Stupid gene to innocent babies. Those people, please, eat SAD to make the world a better place. – a mesmerizing trickster Jun 16 at 4:20

I'm just neurotic. My organization consists of piles, but I know where everything is. I'm a lazy perfectionist. If I can't figure out how to do it EXACTLY the way I have envisioned it, I won't finish it.

I am, however, pretty organized about my diet. I pay close attention to all ingredient labels and make so many more of my own meals than I did on SAD. Now, if only the inside of the fridge was organized...

lazy perfectionist here too – uberbulldog Jun 15 at 18:18

I am so like that. My motto seems to be "a place for everyting and nothing in its place." – Kelly Jun 15 at 18:22

This is EXACTLY me. My grad class did little descriptions of people and mine was "neuritic and comedic". I just know where all the things are and it may look like a mess but it's all under control. My fridge, however, is perfectly labeled. I abhor food waste and so must put a label and date on EVERYTHING. My boyfriend can't open it without me hovering around and rearranging it as soon as he leaves. – JeJ Jun 17 at 0:56

I'm...Type X? I'm feisty, independent, assertive, good at strategic planning, and can step in and lead when I have to, but I'm also one of the most disorganized people I've ever met. (Today, I'm trying to find my zoo membership card so I can take my mom to an event there tomorrow morning, and...WHERE IS IT? OMG. I may have to clean out my office to find it.).

My eating habits were really disorganized, too. I was a constant mindless snacker, grabbing bites here and there all day, eating when I wasn't even hungry, eating without even realizing I was eating just because food was there. So a combination of VLC/HF, plus IF, has finally killed my junk food cravings and created much-needed rules and order regarding when I can eat and what.

And because of that, I now have more energy and my thinking seems to be less scattered--so maybe establishing orderly eating habits will eventually help me establish some semblance of order in the rest of my life? That would be nice.

exactly the same here. paleo has added some well-received order and structure to my eating. – bj Jun 15 at 18:39
This is me. Such a strange combination isn't it? – Shari Bambino Jun 16 at 22:20
Swear to god - I'm the most organized person in the world, but lose my keys at least once a week. It is my biggest down fall. – Divrgurl13 Jun 17 at 0:21

Is there a Type A+ ? I will not settle for anything less.

I'm definitely not into over-planning or over-analyzing my meals. I often have no idea what my next meal will be and will wander into a grocery store and pick up a few things that either look good at the time or that are on sale and turn it into a meal.

With fitness I'm equally random. I don't like structured workouts or fitness programs. I hate gyms. I don't like to feel like a hamster on a running wheel. I use home-made equipment, climb trees, run, run with heavy packs, play games - whatever.

Both have the food and exercise has been incredibly effective for me without too much planning or control. In a little over 2 years I've gone from soft, lethargic, prone to headaches and heartburn to almost-never-sick, lean, frequent participant in obstacle and adventure races and challenges.

Both food and fitness need to be PLAY or I don't want anything to do with it.

Yeah, I'm not into planning meals, either. I have my IF eating "window," and I keep various paleo or paleo-ish foods on hand in the fridge/freezer, but that's as controlled as I get. When it's time to eat, I decide what I'm going to have then, based on what is most appealing. Deciding what my dinner will be an hour ahead of time, I can do. But a day or a week ahead of time? That's crazy talk! – More Butter Please Jun 15 at 23:18
@ More Butter, that would drive me crazy! I rarely have fresh meat in the fridge; it is all frozen. I have to plan at least the morning of, if not the day before, so we have meat thawed! – MathGirl72 Jun 16 at 22:16

I stumble through life in a "stream of consciousness" fashion. Having the paleo "rules" to live by, limits my food choices. This is a very very good thing! It simplifies many areas of my daily life. Meal planning, cooking, and grocery shopping are all easier! Simplifying my life in these ways frees me up to spend more time playing and sleeeeeping.
I LOVE sleep.

I'm always looking for balance in my life, and for all of the important stuff to work together. It's important to me that one area of my life not be in conflict with other areas. I no longer say, "I'll sleep when I'm dead".

I'm nowhere near a 'type A' in 99% of my life, but am dogged about diet.

If I could, I would never interact with another human being in public, save my small group of friends and husband. In my job, however, I must be extremely extroverted and I always take charge of planning things. Everyone assumes that being extroverted comes naturally to me, because "I am so good at it." The reality is, I loathe it.

I'm an obsessive procrastinator. I'll decide that I want to do something and try to figure out all the angles before I commit...which then becomes months (sometimes) before I finally actually do it. Buy a car, get a personal trainer, make a new recipe; doesn't really matter how big or little it is. Right now I'm considering making kefir. I know, it's easy -- but still! I made bone broth about a month ago and that didn't work out too well so I hope this goes better.

Me too! (except I can make bone broth and kefir, lol) – Shari Bambino Jun 16 at 22:18

I'm a type B or if there's anything less than that, that's what I am. I'm totally not organized. My filing system is piles. I'm totally mellow and laid back go with the flow, too.

Nope, I'm not even close to being a type A. I am known to be super laid back, quiet and tend to prefer to go with the flow with nearly everything. I do make a general list of meals for around a 2 week basis to aid me in shopping, but I tend to deviate from the "menu" quite often.

I am an introvert.
When I saw the question, I thought you were going in a different direction, and thought my answer would be: I instinctively tend to break all rules of internet self-promotion.

I'm definitely a Type A personality. I'm extremely organized and have lists for everything. I have a place for everything, and definitely enjoy it when everything is in its place. I just feel better (mentally) if my life is organized. Fortunately, Paleo made the anxiety I used feel when things were messy, or my husband left crumbs everywhere go away. Yay for that! I am a bit more relaxed about "messes" now, too, but still am not a spontaneous person much to many of my friends' dismay. :)

That being said, I am very organized about Paleo - almost a Paleo Nazi. I'm also a total Foodie and I love planning my grocery list for Whole Foods and browsing my Nom Nom Paleo iPad app for meal ideas, etc. There is nothing convenient about Paleo (i.e. there are no quick, convenient snacks other than nuts, jerky, fruit and hard-boiled eggs) and I often wonder how my less-organized friends do it. I have one Paleo wanna be friend at work and when it comes to bringing food to work with her that is Paleo, she's an absolute disaster and always having to eat nitrate filled bacon and sausages and eggs scrambled in industrial seed oils for breakfasts because she can't organize herself to cook and prepare for the week. I actually feel bad for her as she has pretty severe autoimmune and inflammation issues (even more than I do). She's told me she feels amazing when she eats strict Paleo, but then doesn't make it a priority in her life to provide herself with foods that keep her feeling good. I don't get it, personally. Probably because I feel SO MUCH BETTER eating Paleo and my life is better in SO many ways because of what I consider to be pretty simplistic diet changes. Who knew that I didn't have to suffer with endless allergies and severe chemical sensitivities for decades just by avoiding wheat/gluten and diary? Really? It was that simple? :)

Sorry, I got off track. I am definitely Type A and would be interested in hearing how non-Type A's plan for the week and what you eat for convenience when you don't bring your own food and IF isn't an option (i.e. you're starving!).

the paleo culture/scene reminds me alot of the punk culture/scene i identified with as a young manimal. back then, we played loud music, sported mohawks, and got drunk with friends anytime it was possible while others had skinheads and tattooed x's on their hands and were obsessed with nothing more than the exclusion of drink, drugs, and smoking from their lives. the latter group were way serious and no fun to be around, unless you were drunk.

I've been very type A my whole life, and I'm actually learning to back off now that I'm eating Paleo! I think it's because my depression and anxiety are more under control than they ever have been. I do think any kind of restricted diet or atypical lifestyle does require a certain personality type who can make a change and stick with it.

Organized!

We have a typed grocery list that includes our menu for the week. We know the whole week ahead of time. We keep a stocked pantry with back-ups of everything. We tally what it will cost us for the week and scale back to keep within budget (150/wk). Our recipes are all picked out as we make the list every Sunday for Monday shopping. I shop, husband always cooks. I do the dishes. Adult son dries. We must both agree to the menu. No swapping without permission.

Shoes get shined on a regular basis. Clothing is always ironed. House must be kept clean and organized (not obsessively so though).

The rest of our life is pretty much the same. No anxiety not knowing here! I married a service man and a chef by trade...much organization entered my life when I married him!
