I live in Charlotte, and have found a few sources to buy my "good" groceries. I figure others might like to know about them and I'd love to hear where they shop. Maybe folks could list their city/area and their favorite shopping locations.

In the Charlotte area:

  • the Matthews Farmer's Market is fantastic. Pastured pork and beef (two separate ventors), great veggie selection and the most wonderful farm-fresh eggs (look for the 10-11 year old boy with his dad. This kid raises some amazing chickens!)
  • Hillbilly Produce Market has some of the same pork and beef as above, but you don't have to wait for Saturday. They also have what's labeled as "mountain butter", which is butter from grassfed cows. It's in different colors depending on the season and tastes like heaven itself.
  • Costco has some decent deals on Kerrygold butter and produce. We get our fruit there in bulk and dry it for snacks. Pretty nice deals on lamb as well, but the other meats are all conventional grain-fed.

Thanks, my husband has to travel to Charlotte soon, and now we know where he can find good food. – Suzan Mar 3 2010 at 20:57

This is a good idea, but I'm not sure the site is currently equipped to handle something like this. I'm not sure we want dozens of posts listing shopping locations in cities all over the country. I wonder if Patrik could work this into the website/resources index.

Good point! I'll submit my finds to the form Patrik made and hope others do the same. – Biodoc Mar 3 2010 at 20:21
