Hi~

I started SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet) diet 3 days ago.

I cut off all sugars and all carbs (except carrots) but there's a problem.

I am always hungry... Can someone can tell me why?

So I eat a lot of meat! Also at 11:00 am, and tonight!

This happens on GAPS too. According to NCM, it's because all of the food you're eating is easily digested and absorbed. Your hunger eventually balances out. Stick with it. – Roth Jun 22 2012 at 4:18

Eat more fat to replace the carbs. Carbs may have been most of your calories. You need to eat more fat to replace those calories.

Add some salt if you start feeling like you have the flu. That's called the "low carb flu."

Be patient. Once your body is used to this, you'll feel great.

Thank you Karen , I'll don't give up ! yes I feel a little bit like a had a flu! I thought too that this is a detox process..as you said – Matteo Jun 21 2012 at 21:13
I'm glad you are hanging in there! Have to clear up though - I never said it was "detox". Detox is kind of a meaningless term in ways it is used. But yes, it definitely gets better. – Karen Jun 21 2012 at 21:29
Sorry , but in these days i've read "detox" 100.000 times! So there's not a detox period once you got cut all carbo and sugars off ? – Matteo Jun 21 2012 at 21:31

Nope, no detox period. Your body is constantly detoxing all on it's own. The liver and other organs are generally pretty good at it. Eating a clean diet eliminates the flow of crap in, so your own system can go on with its business. – Karen Jun 21 2012 at 22:38

There are products sold that allegedly "detox". They make a nice profit for the people who sell them. That's the only people who benefit. – Karen Jun 21 2012 at 22:41

It will take a few weeks until you start feeling the change. I had bad sugar withdrawls and was feeling sick for a week, but I was patient and stuck with it and it was the best decision I ever made. I eat less and stay fuller longer than I ever did eating all the sugar and carb junk they market to us as "healthy".

Your body generally uses either carbs or fats for energy. You cut out the carbs. Now you need to up the fats until you are not tired or hungry anymore. Just make sure they are healthy fats (coconut, avocado, animal fats, ..).

Good luck!

You are becoming fat adapted meaning your body will replace carbs as source of fuel to fat. It is easier for men. I wasn't able to get to that stage because of burnt out adrenals. As long as you have normal adrenal responses then hang tight the hunger will go away and I second the eating more fat.
