I am a 57 year old female. I have always had an issue with constipation. I have been doing the Paleo Diet for about 2 1/2 months in conjunction with 3-4 days of Crossfit classes a week. I have not lost any weight, but have built muscle! I can see a positive change in my body. Also, I have become more regular with my bowel movements. I have been waking up to a good normal movement first thing in the morning! For me that is pretty good. However for about the last week I have had a pretty steady bout of diarrhea. It usually wakes me up after I go to sleep at night and I will have to get up and go several more times through out the night. It continues on through the morning, until I get to my Crossfit class at 8:30. Thank God once I start my WOD it seems to calm down and I am okay until it starts all over again after I go to bed! I am eating really clean Paleo , I have very few cheats and my cheats are usually a cheese and corn tortillas. Why is this suddenly happening to me ?
check if there is ANYTHING different in your diet. a new brand of coconut milk? different kind of seasoning on your meat? new bottle of fish oil? some little additive or cross contamination in your food may be triggering you. particularly something you eat 4-8 hours before the symptoms start. try keeping a food diary for a few days and see what comes up.
What do you eat? It would probably help to keep a food log and try to find a correlation with the bouts of diarrhea. Also, I think stress can play a big role in bowel health. Any major new sources of stress in your life? Or maybe it's some kind of bacterial or viral infection? Any other symptoms?
Personally I find that I get the same after eating grains. Cut the tortillas for a week and see if it goes away. Almost willing to bet money that that's the issue. Try replace the tortillas with romaine lettuce.(Makes a great taco shell!!)
I occasionally have a similar problem. For me, it seems to have something to do with increasing the fat content of my diet. I eat fairly vegetarian paleo (for no reason other than I LOVE veggies) and have to remind myself to add fat and protein. I find that taking Now Foods Super Enzymes usually clears me up in a day or two.
