Ok, strange observation maybe. On day three of eating nothing but paleo (I have been about 95% so far), I noticed that my energy levels started to increase. Maybe this is just in my head, but day four I woke up and HAD TO WALK AND RUN THE DOG...THREE MILES...NOW!!!! I literally got up, put on my workout clothes, running shoes, and hit the streets. I felt amazing afterwards. Spent the rest of the day doing fun stuff with the family and I felt amazing all the way through. This morning I woke up AND OMG I HAVE TO WALK THE DOG...NOW...3 MILES...RUNING UP THE HILLS. Now I need to say this is day 5 for me. And I am curious if this is normal or am I just psychotic from the chemical changes in my body?

Welcome to PaleoHacks!

How you feel on paleo is VERY dependent on what you ate pre-paleo. If you ate a crappy Standard American Diet (SAD) then switching to any healthy diet (not just paleo) will likely make you feel good.

I personally didn't feel any major change in energy when switching to paleo but I've eaten relatively little junk for quite some time.

As much as I love paleo I firmly believe that most of the benefits from paleo come not from increasing the amount of meat and fat but from dropping the sugar, the processed foods, and the crappy oils. Sure, for many people, dropping the gluten (and all grains for some) and the legumes makes a difference but not for everyone.

Thanks, helps. The more I read the more I am convinced I was a bread/potato addict. I am still dealing with some withdrawl issues from those foods, but I am comming around. I am really worried about going to a family reunion in one week, but I have warned my family about my food needs and they are generally supportive. I may bust out some Sweet Potato chips on em'. – SCUBABry Jun 24 at 16:27

i felt a huge rush about 6 days after I started eating fat (i wasn't paleo yet)...I slowly eased into paleo so i never really got a buzz like i did when i quickly added coconut oil & olive oil to my diet.

on the first day of the buzz I had too much energy from coconut oil...I didn't fall asleep until 4 am & then woke up at 7am completely wired and had the best workout of my life...the buzz only lasted about a week though.

Hey guys, I'm new to the site. I was eating healthy before to begin with except I wasn't eating paleo. I had great energy prior to paleo but right now I'm trying to lean out and cutting out grains and legumes definitely help with consistent 1 lb lost once a week. I didn't eat dairy before so the diet is really not a big jump for me. One thing I definitely noticed is how much stronger I have become. I managed to DB row 30 lb with one arm a couple of weeks ago which i have never done before in the 10 yrs I have been lifting. I do have to make sure that I get my 8 hrs of sleep otherwise my performance is definitely compromised.

It was somewhere between weeks 2 and 3 for me. Though I wasn't smart and kept my training intensity up while I was making the conversion. I should have backed off and given my body more time to adapt.

I was feeling really sluggish at work when I first started it last Monday. Yesterday I ran the muddy buddy and was screaming through it. Came in 5th overall. Anyway hopefully I'll find out tomorrow at work if I'm feeling more energetic. I've cut down on my caffeine as well to 1 cup of coffee in the morning, so we'll see.

While I do have more energy overall, I've never had a huge "Run up the hills!" rush of energy from doing paleo.

What I have had is the ability to get up in the morning without feeling groggy, and go through my entire day without feeling tired or needing to take a nap. I also now feel genuine tiredness when it's time to go to bed--suddenly, I'm tired and it's just time to go sleep. Before, I'd spend my evenings exhausted and not really up to doing much of anything, but I'd stay up just because it was "too early" to go to bed. And I didn't sleep very well when I did go to bed, either--now, I sleep like I'm dead and have a much easier time waking up. I also used to need 10+ hours of (bad) sleep, and now I find that 6-8 hours of good sleep is plenty.

FWIW, I'm 45, and have been doing paleo for 6 months. I have a lot of damage to undo, and expect that will take a while, so I'm not disappointed at not being a ball of fire right now. No longer being constantly fatigued and wanting to crawl back into bed is such a huge improvement in itself, and I'm happy with that.

Wait...did I write this??? Oh, I am not 45 yet, but I certainly have almost the same story about waking up and feeling groggy. As I write this I am already checking to see if the dog would be up for a walk and one week ago I would have been sitting on the bed vegging out in front of the TV. I feel more like I did when I was in my 20s. – SCUBABry Jun 25 at 23:16

I am on my second day and I can barely keep my eyes open at work, despite a 8 hour sleep. I never ate a lot of junk before hand and am fairly fit and healthy.

Question: Am I meant to ease up on my training this week while my body adapts to paleo?
